Remember this is actively in development, final appearances may differ!

Just thought I should let folks know things are still ticking over. For the last week or two I've been focused on the new tent tech as well as refining the new industrial and rigid structure tiles. The previous iteration of the mod had far too many tiles and placeable objects than was necessary, not to mention strayed a long way from the intended themes of the mod in the name of parity, so the aim here to to condense down the number of tiles and objects, the new template system in Starbound 1.0 can help further improve that.

    Industrial tiles
This tileset is intended for use in spaceship interiors and industrial modules planetside and is basically the reboot equivalent of the dark metal tiles in the old mod, there'll eventually be some industrial machinery props as well as various turqoise accent lights and reinforced glass.

    Tent tiles
    Smart placement illustrated
The new tent system again, will have less canopy tiles and props. Unlike the previous iteration, these canopy tiles have distinctive pole locations baked into them, these pole connectors always appear on the same side of the prop, regardless of orientation, to ensure even spacing of the poles. The pole tiles themselves have a 'smart' placement template that detects adjacent background tiles and changes the background accordingly, this allows the pole tiles to be placed free-standing, or merged into a canvas backdrop intelligently.

*Ehem* I just realised I posted this in the wrong topic this morning...

I made a LOT of industrial Avali stuff back in the day, loving the new industrial tiles!

I really love the turquoise industrial tiles, but I'm not entirely sold on the new tents. They somewhat look like.. dunno, fancy steel pipes?

A tent inside a starship. Mind blown.

That certainly looks like It'll be easier to work with than the current tent pieces. I like it. Will there also be lower-hanging edge pieces for use with a cloth door?

Sort've - there'll simply be a new tent 'door' piece that is part of the canopy rather than a hanging curtain

I'd love to see concepts for that.

Also are the tent pieces just at the whim of gravity to a small amount, or will they be drum taut? Just thought how you could give tents a more industrial look in places by stretching the fabric tightly over a sparse carbon fiber skeleton, where it could almost look like a solid object till some of the fabric from a door unfurls, something that could stop blunt impacts better.

Might need a mockup to figure it out.

As much as I like seeing that there's progress with the ship and the industrial tiles, I'm personally finding the tent pieces to be a little off-putting.
I really liked the old pieces because there was a bit of a challenge with putting them together and making it work properly. Plus, the variety also made things pretty, and the overall aesthetic had a nice charm to it, you could look at the tent designs and say it was Avali and not some other race that put up a really big tent.

Will there be any other shapes or pieces available? With all due respect, I find only having two or three plain-looking pieces of tarp a little unimaginative to work with.

Hey, it seems avali stopped dropping pretty sheets over their tents to be destroyed by the elements, so cool.

Dropping a line for future updates. This is getting interesting. Looking forward to the finished product![IMG]

    Okay, that is really awesome.

And the ship, it's actually big I can see that in that room you can fit two shield generators. And the tiles look good.

The tent tiles will surely pull out how imaginative an Avali will be. Hold on, does that mean we can make a huge cathedral-looking tent now?

The lack of foreground roof canvas disappoints me a little, but at the same time, the new canvas looks a ton better. Will there be some variety/different types of roof canvas, or is this it?

Also, by placeables, do you mean all placeables/furniture, or only the tiles/canvas?

Just a quick FYI on avali settlement theory in the reboot, there's a few types of structure you can expect to 3 and the tiles/props need to cover all 3 efficiently:

    http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...375/1304ABA24CB8D7CE6F76FD3680E0C4C8D01A35DD/

    True tents:
As you'd expect, canvas sheets draped over poles and are the closest thing to their traditional nomadic camps. Tents are mostly used for shielding stuff from the elements, or as a short term shelter from the weather. They're not usually used for long-term shelter since they are open to some weather types, as well as intrusion. Typically used for protecting supplies and storage from the elements.

    Inflatable habitats:
Made of modular pieces linked together and then inflated and pressurised. Inflatable habitats are more secure against intrusion, and, when combined with an airlock, can provide pressurized habitation even on airless worlds. Frequently, inflatable habitats used as a living space are then draped over with tent sheets so they look more like a classical tent habitat at first glance.

    Industrial modules:
Specialized equipment required for the tribe's operations planetside, such as ore processors, industrial fabricators, workshops etc. The industrial units sit in stark contrast to the habitation and storage tents since they tend to be moderately armored and are built from rigid structural materials closer to a spaceship design materially. They're modular in design and built to be dropped from orbit and later recovered when the operation is concluded.

Okay this is exciting to see, also is it just me or does the Avali in the pic ryuujin sent look a bit off?

It looks fine to me. Some purists will probably get pissed off about the changes, but I'm fine as long as it brings the mod closer to the original vision.
