Well, sure, speed reduction, but I can just set the minigun to hotbar slot 1 and dash behind the enemy hit 1 shoot him hit 1 again move and then hit 1 again and I'm just flying all over the place with no speed reduction and firing with a bloody minigun. Overheating would be cool, though.

One just need imagination... i can make rate of fire depend on the time you have been shooting (Kind of wind-up) and reset on weapon change, that way, heavy weapons will only be GREAT for high hp targets, being inferior to rifles for low hp targets.

Being creative, you can go crazy, for example, the attached weapon slows you, can only be used when crouched (No movement at all) and will burn you if you run out of energy.

    That's absolutely possible

Wind-up time? So, basically the avali staff variant? That'd be kinda neat.

Bit late, but that's off-topic for this. There's been like 4-5 different 40k weapon mods, though personally leingo's still one of the better polished thus far.

Well for weapon balancing, heavy weapon I recommend not just slowdown movement while carrying or firing but also delayed/slowed response where aiming up or down will be slow/heavy so you cant do something crazy like a 360 no scope and overheating if you held down the trigger too long either stop firing to allow a cool down period or be very ineffective(reduced damage/horribly inaccurate) or break the weapon entirely that have to be later repaired on a bench. Same too with long barrel armaments like sniper/AT rifles with the delayed/slowed response for aiming so it wont be as effective in long range than short range.

Another thing we could actually have weapons consume ammo/magazines(with reload delay) in addition of energy so you have to take consideration to not spam like a madman or make everyshot/burst counts. I would like to add weapon durability but fallout already dropped that mechanic so there's that.

Edit: also weapon deploy delay so it takes some time to switch to(+switch away?) the weapon from other items/tool but I dont think that's possible due to starbound's limitation.

Aside from mods, what would you do with the avali?

eh, but I feel like implementing the magazine system into the mechanain mod, reload will be done automatically and maybe on key press, clip data I still have to think about it, switch delay would be applied to long barrels more(LMG/sniper rifle/AT rifle) and less on short barreled weapons(pistols/SMG), medium barrel(ARs) weapons will be in between. Though the delayed/slowed response is kinda possible, you cant point something heavy as fast like a pistol or SMG.

Building, we had a member back then build alot of cool stuff with the avali assets, havent seen him lately though

Speaking of delayed switch, there is that Avali shotgun in the Triage where you can't shoot for a moment when you quickly draw it out.

I really don't think ammo will work in this game, the whole games been built around using energy for ranged weaponry, so it wouldn't feel very vanilla at all, ur other points were good though, a heavy weapon could slow down movement and aiming, but have huge dps to counter :)

I would suggest simply including a note to turn the tutorial off when playing Avali. It's a boring walk that most of us probably skip on new characters anyway.

Whenever a weapon is drawn it automatically goes onto cooldown equivalent to the length of the after-cast duration, to prevent people hot swapping between two high-impact weapons with long cooldowns to skip the normal cooldown; shotguns and rocket launchers are two good examples of weapons with long after-cast windows.

However, rapid fire weapons (like automatic rifles), tend to have a very very very rapid firing cycle (Often fractions of a second), and so are available virtually as soon as they are drawn.

I also got a question. (Please dont take this offensive).
Some people in the community think the Avali are kind of mary sues, because they have no serious flaws within the starbound universe. They say the Avali are too "perfect".
Are you going to rework this as well or will this stay as it is?

Also the furniture. Will we keep these fluffy pillows and tapestries? cuz it looked really awesome c:

Too perfect? Wat? Not sure how some come to that conclusion with the post-Protectorate humans and Hylotl are kinda a thing. Specially the Hylotl, come to think of it...

Suggestion: In the interest of avoiding collisions, it would probably be best to give all your mod's items/objects/etc. a Minecraft-style prefix (e.g. "avali:nanocanvas" or what have you); I'm going to be switching over to this scheme for my own mods soon, and it's a loooot less annoying to do so early in development <.<

As far as I know they're not very tough nor strong and a very large Avali is only 4 ft tall (about 1.3 M) if even that.

  17. Joneithevius

    Joneithevius Subatomic Cosmonaut

They actually do have a couple of major flaws; That they're racist towards humans (justifiably, but still), and that the Illuminate is very strict and controlling, as well as a tad xenophobic. A more benevolent Miniknog, if you will.

Also, their combat is very speed-oriented, focusing on movement and regular artillery, lacking true tanks or heavy duty weaponry (besides drone-mounted railguns), so they'll have difficulty facing heavily armored tanks even if it's by a race far inferior to them, so they're very efficient on foot/as individuals, but not so much in full out war against more armor-focused species.

Neither of those are perfect mary-sues either, what are you talking about? While the Protectorate is good, you have the USCM, overly zealous military nuts who'll shoot anyone not them, and there's the rampant amount of human criminals and jails all over the place, implying american humans were still embracing aggressive imprisoning. The hylotl are... extremely racist and xenophobic, even if they try to act kindly and outreaching, and the incomplete lore implies they have a nasty secret themselves.

Someone who says the Avali are too-perfect Mary Sues is probably griping about their popularity without actually looking at their lore, because as Joneithevius mentioned, the Avali do have their fair share of flaws. Certainly no fewer than any other Starbound race. It's just that a lot of those flaws are on levels of technology, society, and biology that Starbound would have a hard time properly representing beyond codex entries (biology in particular has to largely be hand-waved entirely for the sake of the game), and I'm not sure that the Avali codex is even entirely fleshed out yet.

We probably could do with some hostile Avali encampments and dungeons to represent some of the different, and not altogether nice or friendly, Avali factions, though.

If I recall my chemistry lessons correctly, doesn't ammonia essentially vaporizes when it comes in contact with water? I'd consider that a flaw as well.

Exactly. But, as strict adherence to the Avali's biology would make much of the game impossible, that has to largely be hand-waved for Starbound's context, among other things.
