Automatically Designate Your First Planet As Your Home Planet

This is a small suggestion -- and I'm fairly certain that someone must have mentioned it far sooner than I -- but I just lost my home planet after successfully jumping the Beta cluster for the first time.

The process required in order to retrieve the coordinates seem long, technical, and potentially unsafe to the stability of the game. Simply having your very first planet designated as your "home" so that you can safely leave it knowing you can come back would go a long way to help new players like myself keep their bearings in such a vast universe.

It's particularly rough for me because I emphasize building. I left a nice house on my first planet and now I'll have to start again.

Not to be mean but I don't think this matters in overall gameplay. It is rather easy to jot down the coordinates of your planet, and really as fun as it is, construction is not the focal point of this game. I love building too, but the point is to explore and survive.

That said, a system that tracks the planets you visited, and allows you to revisit them could be very nice, though I'm certain that's already been brought up.

I really don't think you're right about this. Vide collecting blocks, the wiring table, turrets... Construction's at least on an equal footing with exploration.

Does your home planet setting not persist if you change sector, or did you just forget to set it? Anyway, your solution is an elegant one

I did not make the starting planet my home, so it wouldn't benefit me, but really I wouldn't mind either if it were automatically set as home - I would just set a new home later. I'm sure it'd be simple to implement, but at the same time you could overcome the need for it by educating new players. I guess I'm indifferent on this suggestion.

On the construction vs. exploration topic - I think it all depends on who you ask. I'm sure people have more fun doing one than the other.

I remember reading that suggestion and I fully support it. I would like both a history of visited planets and a 'favorite planets' list. But, unless the history is infinitely long, it does not render the OP's suggestion redundant. In other words, a new player may not know that he can set his home planet, and he may visit enough planets that the first entry in his history is removed thus causing him to lose his work.

Love this. Did just post it as a rudimentary reference to the other threads reguarding the tracking list. Do not think it should be infinite. That would probably kind of suck comp resources. Not sure though.

I think that many experienced players will not notice having the starting planet be designated as home, but for all of the players that will be playing the game for the first time, this is a very good introductory feature that will prevent a lot of frustration if they go to a new place and forget where they came from.

This could be even tied in to the original storyline of quests, to point out the importance of the coordinate system.
Or to introduce the "Favorites" or "Recently Visited" list, hint hint!

For now, because of how the home system works, 100% in support of this. I am always in favor of doing little things to make the start of games more straightforwards for new players, especially if it in no way disadvantages experienced players in any capacity.
