1.Question about the missions that I'm not sure will get answered: are you going to have multiple story plots based on race(ex: Play floran for floran story) one mission branch for all characters(ex:the story is the same from the ai no matter which player you use) or the bioware method where you tease the former but use the latter (ex: play floran for floran intro, then get roped into a clandestine multiracial organization of good to stop generic bad guy menace) (Hint: i don't think 3 is the good choice for this game.) 2. Some folks have mentioned that the mission mode might impede certain things players may want to do, such as permadeath mode, or perhaps their own challenges and scenarios. Is there something in game that would address and alternative mode without the starting missions/planet or would mods be the answer?
Bless Chucklefish for not throwing all their eggs into the 'procedurally generated' basket. Starbound is going to be amazing.
Dungeons are going to be awesome! So with this new advancement system, the sectors are gone replaced by things we have to accomplish/acquire before we can visit new types of planets...Is there going to be a way to save our planets we have already built lots of things on? I always back up my home planet file when I back up my player characters/ships files, but with sectors being removed from the game to make way for this more organic and interesting advancement structure, is there going to be a way to import an existing planet file when this is updated? Or are we going to have to start over with any planet-based structures when the sectors are removed and it becomes a quest-based advancement? Should I stop building things on planets?
Ironically, I just reinstalled EV Nova yesterday. (Though I find Override is my fave of the trilogy, so I'm using that TC.) Back on topic, sorta: "Hold on tight, The Cheat! We're takin' this baby TO THE MOOOOOON!"
After many months as I put this game down in FEB due to waiting for the DEVs to get settled and begin to really push out content. I am SO excited to BOOT up now with everything collectively adding to a nice content package. You guys have done great work in recent months.! Excited to test it all out
Awesome, though I think that it would be a bit redundant to have all races do the exact same thing for their opening mission, other than that keep up the good work.
I think this is meant to be a section of the main quest line. That is, every race will have to do this quest, but their main quest story will be different. I.E., if I'm a Hylotl, I start out and need to do some Hylotl culture thing, then I need to go to this moon, then I need to do another Hylotl culture thing. If I'm a Floran, I start out and need to do some Floran stabby thing, then I need to go to this moon, then I need to do another Floran Stabby thing. Get the idea? Point is, don't be worried about having identical quest-lines. I'm sure they won't put us through that. ... Right, Chucklefish? Right?
Agreed. Not only that, but outcomes of missions were able to affect global game conditions (which races were friendly to you, what kinds of planets you had access to, the global political situation in the game universe, etc.) I wasn't expecting CF to try this with SB because of all the procedural generation (The EV universe was after all static in layout). But now that there are instanced places possible in the SB universe, there's no reason they can't go all out like EV did. The combo of procedural generation + instances + a quest/mission system that can change the universe would make the game pretty revolutionary, and seems possible from where the game is now.
All this talk about moons remindsme of that old song. Oh, my. I'm getting old. I can't wait to see some random missions working.
NEVAR Actually, tomorrow morning, at around 8:00 AM my time (it's 4:57 PM here, so you can figure out when 8 is at your time). If you mean the STABLE update, then, well... Whenever Chucklefish feels like it. In the meantime, nightlies work perfectly fine. Oh, and also, stop complaining about it. Don't be so proud as to think you are the first to want that. Oh, and also... Why... Why is this so fast?
Yup, spelled it wrong. None taken, I would've continued to spelled it like that if you hadn't corrected me, thank you. And I honestly didn't mean any offense with the saga, sagan thing. Spell* jeez
Hey I looked this up and everything but I didn't look around too hard, is this only available for Mac? And if I can get it for pc do you have any idea how to find a legitimate place to get it? If not I'll look into it better, but it sounds cool and I'd like something like this to play. Thanks!
Not one mention of Moon Wizards... somehow I'm shocked. Though perhaps that's a really easy joke to make.
While I'm certainly glad that you're adding missions, from what you said about "carefully designing each room", I'm a bit worried that they're all going to feel like the same thing over and over again (kind of like the ONE structure that spawns in Asteroid fields right now...). There's something to be said about designing a good system for procedural randomized generation. It would just mean that you could play the mission over, and over, again and always expect something different, if they arent all 100% the same every time! n.nU
uhhh i dont know and also i keep whining about the stable update because ive been waiting so long and lastly its not letting me use nightly builds because i do all of the things i need to do and it just doesnt let me do the last thing i need to do i am sorry my grammrar is bad
