imagine the ability to name items maybe you could designate what matter manipulator is what if your able to get infinite ones from the AI and upgrade them seperately
I think the matter manipulator should not mine all materials at the same speed. The higher tiered "harder" blocks appear as though they are meant to be denser materials (= more matter to manipulate) so it makes sense if they take longer, at least from an immersion point of view IMO.
I installed the Mass Effect mod ( http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/starbound-mass-effect-edition.1062/ ) because Mass Effect is awesome, but I kept it because it had upgraded versions of the matter manipulator that made it a great tool throughout the game. It's good to see that we'll get sci-fi tools in the main game to match the stone age stuff we are forced to use so much. Thank you!
I'd actually prefer the matter manipulator limited entirely just to placing stuff and moving furniture.. that's it. I'd rather start with a wood axe and progress through the minerals and then get into high tech axes (cutting laser).. same for the other tools. I fear an OP'ed matter manipulator mid to end game will completely invalidate all other tool crafting recipes.. unpopular opinion but it's the only one I have .
Great idea... You Should make the matter manipulator able to be a gun similar to the what Dead Space did.
Really Cool! BUT I want to suggest a thing... Some upgrade that makes you dig only for the "useful" resources. I don't want to dig a 5x5 hole in the ground for 3 stupid coal so I upgrade the matter manipulator and ¡Tah-Dah! 3 digged coal and no other 5x5 hole that make my planet look like a cheddar cheese.
Wouldn't this make pickaxes obsolete? What I would really want to see is to arrange furniture and objects using the matter manipulator. It would really make building easier. Breaking and placing a table is quite a drag.
YES exactly.. please leave the MM alone, if anything make it less useful (can't cut trees or dig is a good start, give the player crappy wood tools to start). Re purposing it specifically for manipulating furniture is a great idea.
I hope they give us an option to remove the 'flying pixels' effect, and make many falling blocks stack. It would save them the trouble of adding it in stage 2.
I was wondering if Chucklefish could be convinced to do the matter manipulator upgrades as an Inventory Management Puzzle, like in Solatorobo or Megaman Battle Network 2? Have a grid, and the upgrade chips take up a certain shape and amount of space, and you have to finagle with it to get all the stuff you want in. I always found stuff like that fun, probably the reason I wish they'd bring back the inventory system from RE4.
Yeah, this was kind of an annoying thing for me, too. It's like, how do you have this awesome space age mining tool and pickaxes are better?
It'll make a lot obsolete. A large part of mine is upgrades as well, not to mention many new modders make edits to the mining tools to learn the basics.
It made sense to me that it has lifting power on things that are not really attached to anything else, but that to break down the bonds between things, it wasn't really a digging tool. I don't really like this idea - I like that you need to be more inventive, use a pick axe or drill to really get down and break up stuff. I'd much prefer to see it become a long range vacuum tool.
Maybe to balance it they could add a table** or something where you can choose from one of two upgrades as you progress, kind of how like Bastion handled it (you can change your choices if they don't suit you) I guess you could have choices like, "collect liquids" vs. "Bonus against wood and trees", and choices of "More Size" vs. "More power" every other upgrade of so **better idea, make it a function of the ship AI
