So yeah. Another suggestion thread. I hope this hasn't been suggested already, I also hope that if it HAS been suggested before, it doesn't go into detail like I plan to do. BASIC CONCEPT Helicopters that you can fly around. And blow stuff up with. How they would work So, I think there should be different tiers of Attack Choppers. Each tier would be better and more expensive (in terms of materials, they would be made, not bought, except from certain races, maybe the toaster-people? http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/toaster-ponies.1855/) Tier 1 Materials required 1. Large amount of early-game metal (aluminum or iron or something) 2. Small amount of lead 3. Small amount of bulletproof glass (fiberglass) 4. A small engine (made from other stuff or perhaps scavenged from fallen ships or maybe purchased from a mechanic NPC or something) Weapons 1. Light machine gun (fired manually) 2. Gatling gun turret (fired by a passenger (NPC or friend on a multiplayer server)) Armor (can have any of these armor types, for future tiers, 1 is the equivalent of light armor, 2 medium, and 3 heavy) 1. Light armor - Allows you to go faster, but at the cost of less defense 2. Medium armor - A balance of speed and defense 3. Heavy armor - Has higher defense, but at the cost of speed Picture: (Thanks goes to Madmarlon for the picture, he's really awesome) Tier 2 Materials required 1. Large amount of mid-game metal (Steel, Titanium) 2. Small amount of lead 3. Small amount of blastproof glass (reinforced fiberglass) 4. Medium engine (An upgraded version of the small engine? Or puchasable) 5. Small [Laser maker] (working title) Weapons 1. Light gatling gun (fired manually) 2. Medium gatling gun turret (fired by a passenger) 3. Light laser turret (fired by a passenger) Armor 1. Stealth armor (allows you to turn partially invisible, and completely invisible to NPCs, until you fire a weapon, that is ) (also has an energy meter that shows how much charge is left, you can only activate it at full charge, and it lasts for a minute or so, and regenerates in about 30 seconds or so, depending on what upgrades you have) (Subject to change) 2. Reflective armor (Has a chance to reflect certain projectiles (bullets, lasers) in a random direction, allowing them to hit something and do damage, however it does not prevent them from doing damage (i.e. you get hit by something and it reflects, it still does damage, it just reflects away)) 3. [Check back later] Tier 3 Materials required 1. Large amount of farther mid-game metals (Steel-titanium alloy, Cobalt) 2. Mo' lead 3. Small amounts of Blastproof glass 4. Heavy Engine 5. Large [laser maker] 6. Class C small explosives (purchased from NPCs or something) Weapons 1. EMP cannon (directional blast that does no damage but temporarily disables all vehicles and other electronic devices in it's path, fired manually) 2. Light gatling gun (fired manually) 3. Dumb missiles (travel in a straight line in whatever direction your chopper is pointing, fired manually) 4. Heavy laser turret (fired by a passenger) Armor 1. Reactive armor (Protects from explosives) 2. [Check back later] 3. Blasting armor (When it takes enough damage, each armor panel can blast off and hit something, dealing heavy damage, at the cost of lowering defense each time) (Would be able to repair the armor, replacing any panels that got blasted off) Tier 4 Materials required 1. Large amounts of early end-game metals (Tungsten) 2. Lead (duh) 3. Heatproof blast-rated glass 4. Ion generator 5. Heavy Engine 6. Class B explosives 7. Large [laser maker] Weapons 1. Ion Cannon (Acts like an EMP, only does medium damage, fired manually) 2. Heavy Machine Gun (fired manually) 3. Heat-seeking missiles (seek out the nearest heat source, be it an enemy ship, an enemy troop, or your own vehicle ) (Basically, it's not a good idea to fire these if there are no enemies onscreen) 4. Heavy Cannon Turret (fired by a passenger) 5. Heavy Laser Turret (fired by a passenger) Armor 1. Dismissive Armor (Completely resistant to EMPs or Ion bursts) 2. [Check back later] 3. Resistant Armor (Very high defense, at the cost of heavily lowered speed) Tier 5 Required materials 1. Tier 4 attack chopper 2. Large amount of end-game metal (A special morphing metal known as Mutatium) 3. Class A explosives Weapons 1. Smart missiles (only target enemies, fired manually) 2. Death Beam (Like a Heavy Gatling Gun, Heavy Laser Cannon, and EMP all rolled into one, fired manually) 3. Death Beam Turret (Same as death beam, fired by a passenger) Armor 1. Morphing armor (This armor can change depending on the situation. Basically, it's all the armors previously mentioned all rolled into one, and can change on the fly with the click of a button on the UI) (Subject to change) And that wraps up my extraordinarily long attack chopper suggestion thread. Hopefully, you read the whole thing, and if you did, please tell me what you thought of it! Even if you didn't read the whole thing, feedback would be appreciated EDIT: Just realized I forgot to say that ANY and ALL pixels for this are accepted, IMO it's a little confusing without pictures to look at (loljk it's just that pictures are real purdy ), so if you want to, feel free to sprite something up. I would love you forever (no homo).
its a great idea im just thinking with the later tech level maybe theyre no longer heli's but flying fortress type things using jets and thrusters instead of just the rotor blades? maybe even some form of anti gravity?
Fits in with the game great and should provide a much better way to traverse planets The materials sound like they belong in the game. My only question is wouldnt the morphing armour be a little hard to control considering the number of options?
Nice detailing there. I like the idea, but I think the armor types should all be basic for all tiers (light, medium and heavy, of course each of them getting better with every tier), and then you'd be able to apply those special features (reflective, stealth, etc) on one of those three types of armor. I'm saying this basically because it's always nice to customize if you want more defense or speed.
Actually, this is a fantastic idea, and a little bit like what I thought of mid-way through writing it, but then I decided that I'd change it later, because it would take a little bit to go back and change it Thanks for the feedback! And yes, the morphing armor would be a little hard to control, I was just trying to think of something really cool for the final tier of attack choppers I'll revise it later with something a bit easier to understand The thing is, is that once you get into that sort of thing with jets and thrusters and anti-gravity, you start losing the feel of being in a helicopter, and it starts feeling more like you're in some sort of jet or something. But I see what you're getting at, and it is a good idea. Also, thanks for the feedback!
Okay everyone, major re-write coming soon! Hopefully this weekend, when I get time, and maybe a minor edit tomorrow.
