So when you go high enough, the temperature minimizes and you very quickly start freezing to death.

Naturally, I had a great curiosity as to how high I could get regardless.

As I reached just about my max height before freezing, I came upon a meteorite. Just like one from the fields, hovering happily miles above my planet.

I quickly died of hyopthermia, however upon building a nano stove (Which is the only heat scource that has worked thus far) and found that there were very sparsely scattered meteorites across the sky to jump along.

I'm just wondering if anyones ever found anything up there, other than small clumps of meteorite rock, and if not, is there any plan to put something up there?

I think there were going to be small amounts of ore up there at some point.

I can't believe I've never thought of doing that! When I played Minecraft forever ago, the first thing I did was build a 1x1 tower of dirt to the highest point. Same thing with Terraria.
    That's really neat!

I have yet to make my tower to the stars... This inspires me to do that now..

Well... After I check something else real quick... Then I will make my Terrabyte Tower! (Yeah, I'm glitch.. Had to make a fitting name..)

You can find Plutonium early on those meteors.

I think that the shallower a planet's crust is, the shorter the distance is to the asteroids above the planet. I'm not sure yet, but I think that the smaller a planet appears on your starmap, the shorter the distance around it is, as well as being shallower.

It is just that.. Small on star map = small (surface) map = Shorter distance to lava core.. I am sure it will translate to shorter distance to meteors too, but I haven't tested it yet.. In fact, I haven't built any sky towers yet.. I spend too much time running around the planet (literally) and digging a hole.. If I find a planet suitable for making into a homeworld, I will flatten it out and build my fortress!

I sort of tested it, although not well, a while back. If I remember correctly, it was indeed the case, and my tower was much shorter before I hit space.

So I tested it some more.

There is veeeery, very little up there, no plutonium, nothing so far other than coal and copper and meteorites, the coldness level seems to vary from planet to planet with some being able to war you up with only campfires, others needing at least a nanostove.

So overall so far: Really super dooper cool especially with the possibility for space stations above your home planet, but really, kind of not worth the effort for anything other than exploration and creative building location.

Nice idea for a space station, although space heaters will need to be found in every room.

Well, heat is more powerful in backgrounded area, though still not strong enough, you will need 1-10 in every room. though they are quite easy to make, just needing a few pixels.

Maybe if you are wearing no armor..... 1 keeps me cozy in space in tier 3 armor...

I did some decent amounts of exploring, and eventually found a nice one pretty close to above my spawn on my homeworld

Naturally I've expanded and weaponized the whole place and have used up all my reserves of light metal that i've dredged up in random digging.

In addition I've chucked in just about every even semi relevant item I can fit.

...You know, for outer space, there sure is a lot of goddamn birds to shoot.

Apparently they used to have plutonium, but now it's just meteorite rock, some coal, copper an coldness. I wish there were no monsters there, building bases would be much more fun. And seeing them jump to their deaths chasing you gets old pretty quickly. ;P

Has anyone hit a skybox if they went too high?

This is accurate. If you find a really small planet, you can cross it in about 10 minutes (just walking, no techs). The biggest planets can take upwards of half an hour.

Yeah, if you go to high, you just kinda hit a roof, hover there for a sec, then fall down again.

Sounds like it's the same thing that happens at a planet's core, and when you try to move into an unloaded chunk. Starbound uses chunks, right?
