Asteroid Fields/Moons: Why so Cold?

    Seriously.

    Read this, please: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SpaceIsCold

Once you've read that, then please answer my question:

Why do you near-instantly freeze to death on an Asteroid or a Moon?

You already need the Survival Gear to even do anything there in the first place, but also making it so we either have to wear the snow infantry set (which means you'll die in 1-2 hits flat on any planet above T3), or wait until T10 (why are you even on the Asteroids/Moons in the first place at that level when you already have everything?).

Dropping Campfires/Furnaces/What-have-you every 10 seconds is not really fun gameplay. In fact, it makes the place far more trouble than it is actually worth.

These places would mean a lot more to the game if the game actually gave you a reasonable method to actually survive there. The Survival System alone should be enough; we shouldn't need to carry around lots of campfires or furnaces along with it.

Considering the alternative is getting obscene doses of radiation and dying in several months of highly aggressive cancer, I'll say we lucked out with space just being COLD.

Or they could, yanno, not give you ridiculous penalties for going to a Moon/Asteroid Field in the first place so that you, uh, actually go there rather than see it on the starmap and go "Meh, not worth the trouble." and just skip it.

I can understand the requirement for the Survival System, that's fine. It is an item that exists that allows you to go there and not die from lack of air. THAT makes sense.

You answered your own question by linking to TV Tropes. While it may not be scientifically accurate, it's incredibly common in the genre.

You're complaining about it being unrealistic while complaining that you can't walk around a moon in a tee shirt. Make up your mind.

I don't know about asteroid fields, but moons can certainly have a thin atmosphere, and thus be cold.

    Tee Shirt?

Last I checked, most of the later-tier armors (especially for humans) cover the whole body in pretty thick-looking stuff.

The problem is, though, is as I said in my OP: Asteroid Fields and Moons are not worth the trouble they are in the end run. There's literally no reason to even go there at all.

Then don't go there. I go to them pretty frequently, so I'd have to disagree that there's "literally no reason to go there at all." But if you don't think they're worth the trouble, don't bother with them.

Have anyone thought that even if you cannot breath on the moon/asteroids... how is that campfire or torches... burn? o_O there is no oxygen...right?

They'll probably add better space equipment in the future, like glow sticks for light, and/or a portable heater.

    I don't know.

I kind of like having to think about what I need in order to wander around a specific planetoid. Having to change up your gear in order to survive this planet vs. that planet adds a neat little touch that I, for one, enjoy. Adds a little to the realistic aspect of the game (as realistic as one can be when playing a three-eyed amphibious boobed biped) and feels right when planning out my travels. If/when the planets get more specific information about them (atmosphere/gravity/etc) and if they add other various gear (specifically underwater/high gravity, and the like) planning what you need may be even more vital when hopping planet to planet to explore.

I like how we can suspend disbelief for renaissance-faire robots who need to eat and poop, and instant resurrection after death (complete with all clothing and carried belongings, even if you happen to be carrying around seventy tons of dirt and rock) but cold asteroids are just too much to handle.

Another one of these "THIS ISN'T HOW IT WORKS IN REAL LIFE" threads?
Look, it's a game. You can't expect everything to mirror reality. They're game designers, not physicists, biologists, botanists, etc. Yeah, sometimes it wouldn't hurt to do research here and there, but using these tropes aren't exactly a bad thing either. So why do people make a big deal about these? Especially when bullets travel at abnormally slow speeds, you can carry literally 10 tons of dirt in your pack without getting crushed, and you can walk around on the moon butt-naked and not pass out. It's silly.
No, it's not accurate to real life. And no, it's not a big deal. Suspension of disbelief- it's a nice thing.

Well, outer space can be ridiculously cold in certain areas but it can also be pretty freakin' hot. It's just a matter of where you are in outer space.
