Can I unpack the assets and copy them to another folder and pack them in the starbound dir so I dont have to got the the method every time I go through them?
Once unpacked you can do with the assets whatever you want, they're independent. But what do you mean, pack? I hope not repacking them into /assets/packed.pak
You don't ever, EVER repack assets into packed.pak. This just screams "please hardbrick my game". Use the modding system if you want to modify the vanilla assets.
That's when something becomes as useful as a brick and you can't rescue it unless you redownload it. So, you can't do anything with it.
