As I've played, I've come to wonder: Is Big Ape REALLY watching?

Big ape is having his jimmies rustled by free thinking.

Glitch don't know human culture and memes, though. They assume from their dealings with the Apex, and their omnipresent Big Ape, that this poster must also be of said Ape.

That's true, but the Glitch have seen actual representations of Big Ape and they know what he looks like. And again, all races use Apex tech for their shiplocks.

Ha, the Glitch called Kluex "Big Bird" (get it, it's like... Big Ape). Yeah, I wouldn't really trust what they say things are.

The Avians say it's Big Ape as well. Pretty sure the Glitch know what they're talking about when it comes to that poster.
There isn't any visual representation of Kluex for the Glitch to know about, and the Villages of Glitch are going to be naturally less intelligent compared to most other villages. They're medieval!

There are interpretations of Kluex's visage, but Big Ape has a consistently used representation.
Also, the Rogues (players) are naturally going to know more about the world. They haven't been cooped up and held back by their society.
Except Florans. They're just unintelligent in general.

I heard Apex ask me whether other races have Big Ape counterparts too, like Big Bird or Big Human. Heh...

Do we know what Big Ape is supposed to be? I haven't read anything about him. I only know that he wants to challenge Kluex to a boxing match, and that Kluex was mortal once... but has become a true god, supposedly.

Also, if anyone could share "The Kluex Delusion Part 3" with me, I'd be very happy. I only have 1, 2, 4 and 5.

Big Ape is the god figure of the Apex, and is essentially no more than a controlling aspect of their society; the "opium of the masses" if you will. I can't find too much evidence that the Apex actually belIeve in him though, only use him as a figurehead.
He probably would want to challenge Kluex to a boxing match.
As for Kluex himself, he was indeed once a mortal, just as Talos was in The Elder Scrolls. The two both ascended to godhood by being total badasses. Kluex in particular was the both first and most powerful leader of the Avians to ever live. The aliens who gave the Avians their intelligence didn't count on the old and new tribes of Avians interbreeding, and it created a new society on about the level of the Humans. Kluex, their first leader, retired from his position after he was as old as an average avian's age of death. He lived some 30 more years, and spent them upholding justice in their society. For his acts, he became idolized and worshipped by the Avians.

It seems to me the Apex are just one big alien representation of '1984', with the Big Ape replacing Big Brother. Do Apex have a Ministry of Love?

No idea; I've yet to read 1984, sadly.
I would say that Big Ape himself is certainly not real (unlike kluex, hehe), but the influence he is credited with is likely at least 78% unembellished

Read 1984, you may be surprised. :D

I've read excerpts and heard a fair amount about it, enough to know the similarities to the Apex.
But yes, I will get around to reading it when I have the time and a copy.

This is how I envision a benevolent form of Big Ape watching over all of us while playing Starbound. Yes, even the Florans are under his protective gaze.

I'm going to say "no" since I slaughtered an entire apex apartment complex/base last night. I felt bad about it more a few seconds but hey, those guys drop way better loot than boss mobs or anything I can craft after boatloads of mining/crafting, so they had to die.

Not only was big ape not watching (or watching and not caring - would be fairly typical behavior for a godly entity), but his guards are slackers too. I could kill one guard with others nearby and they'd just chill eating bananas or something, waiting for their turn to die!

From what I can tell, the non-human examinations of the poster are just aliens naturally not understanding the human "Rustled Jimmies" meme. The examinations are always in a questioning tone, typically asking why humans would have a poster of Big Ape, when in reality they just have a silly meme-referencing poster with no actual relation to Big Ape. Basically, it's just a fresh joke using an old meme, one told at the expense of all non-human species in Starbound.
