So basically this would allow players to place weapons, that can fire different types of bombs to distant locations.

They should be stationary and can be relocated with the right tools and some dismantling time. They require a solid, maybe reinforced fundament.

    Benefits & Miscellaneous

    1. Adds a lot of spice for pvp oriented play.
    2. Should be quite expensive to use, since it endangers the enemy base, or strong creatures without big risks(to circumvent this further, accuracy can be a little random)
    (3. Optionally it could shoot players/equipment?)

Well, such an archaic weapon maybe doesn't fit the sci-fi style of Starbound. Especialy point 3. might be useless, when teleporting is easy to achieve. However, the benefit for pvp is huge and i figured people might like it.

Oooh this would be fun, just think of 2 teams setting up artillery on opposite hillsides, and then turn-by-turn duke it out. Adjusting the elevation and power just SO that you hit an enemy. Also, the shells should leave huge craters, so that you slowly alter the terrain...

    Well yes, a kind of Tanks/Worms mini-game :)

That could be quite fun, and since I think that force fields have been announced, it would be awesome if that system is reasonably in depth.
I'm thinking that a mortar battery would force the other players to reroute power to the shields so that they don't get pulverized, but aren't able to run certain functions and their power smelters only one at a time on account of not having enough power. It might be a very good way to declare that a siege is on or off, with functions such as in-base rezzing or somesuch aren't available. More than one mortar battery might interfere with boths' performance, so that you can't pound away at the fortress from afar without spreading yourselves too thin.

I just found out that cannons are coming for Terraria 1.2 (the upcoming patch) :megusta:
just search on youtube for "terraria cannons" for the source

So i'm quite fond that they will implement something like that in Starbound!

And your ideas are quite elaborate, really like your input.
