I have a question about artifacts spawning (and foraging in general) Currently I am missing two artifacts and my hunt to find them is the focal point of my game right now. First thing I attend to the animals, then check the greenhouse for a new harvest, and then it's off to search all of Stardew Valley top to bottom for new artifact sites every day. I find this routine to be extremely tedious, but I am compelled to continue because my fear is that if I go artifact hunting on Days 1, 2 and 3, but skip Day 4, that might be the day the artifact I'm hunting for spawns. Now, I know that the loot that you dig up is set (having had to reset the day before) and the exact same artifacts are always found in the exact same spot, so it isn't a random seed generator. My question(s) is this. If I skip Day 4, and let's say two artifact sites spawn, would those same artifact sites still be there on Day 5 (and would they contain the same artifact each day)? How long does an artifact site remain? I ask because I've noticed that the amount of artifact sites is substantially lower now that I'm specifically hunting for them each day, and digging them up when I find them, when before I would just randomly find a bunch as I was carrying along with my day focused on other things. Should I hunt for artifacts each day? Should I wait every few days? Once a week? What is the best strategy for artifact hunting you've found? P.S. I've tried hunting during Winter, but unlike every other season which yields random artifacts most of the time, Winter seems to spawn a majority of forage items like Snow Yams and Winter Roots, and very few artifacts
i'm pretty sure dig spots do stay longer than a day. when i needed artifacts, i checked in the places the wiki directed me to.
They accumulate until the end of the week, then reset, so don't worry about missing things if you forget to check daily. EDIT: I've been informed that it's just the forage that accumulates that way and that artifacts go away after a couple of days.
^Amazing. I am going to test this out. It honestly has gotten very frustrating for me to have the exact same routine every day. Now I can ease up racing to cover every square inch in a single day. Maybe get some fishing done, go visit Sandy in the desert and bring her a flower, shop for some new furniture at Robin's, reorganize my farm a bit (it badly needs it, I've just never had the time, I'm too busy artifact hunting). Seriously, I hope this turns out to be true. Thanks a bunch.
I was doing a completionist run...and gave up on the artifacts. I spent years man, it was just impossible. I started a new game so I could enjoy earning all the other achievements again.
It's not *that* difficult. I found all minerals and artifacts by the end of Year 2/beginning of Year 3 (can't quite remember) except for two...However, those two artifacts I haven't been able to find for over two years after that. I have found multiples of almost all the other artifacts as well. Artifacts aren't terribly rare or hard to find, you've just got to get lucky to find specific ones. There are a bunch of people who've completed the museum collection on these forums, I just seem to be unlucky with the two I'm missing. : (
I was in a similar state: had all but two, just got one of them today. Stupid amphora holding me back. The "odds" are supposed to be decent (wiki says 4%), but seems like the town has either the worst spawn rate, or it has too much scenery that obscures potential spawn locations.
What? did you go to jail or something? Did you spent years because police arrested you for kleptomania or something? I imagine police was like "He played that farming game"
Clearly, real life years. Some people who were in their teens when SV came out are now in their eighties. It happens. And if you believe that, I have a Nigerian bank on hand which would just love to forward you a million dollars, if you can advance them cash to cover expenses. The thing about artifacts...? It seems every game, for every person, is different in this respect, but it seems every game has some different artifacts that are extremely difficult to locate. You can certainly try to locate the one or two that are holdouts, but it's just a personal goal. It's not as if grandpa will hold it against you if you don't succeed, and the Community Center can come together without respect to it.
Artifact hunting is tedious af... >.> When I completed the museum the last artifact I was missing was the prehistoric rib. I ended up completely neglecting my farm. Just woke up, talked to the family, rode into town and looked for yellow arrows, picked/dug up whatever the arrows were pointing at and then went back home to bed which was usually well before 8 AM depending on how many yellow arrows there were in town. Rinse and repeat day after day for several seasons. Didn't dare skip a day in case it despawned on me. ...And then I got it. Happy days all around, victory dance was made xD
Aye. Previously in this thread someone suggested that the artifacts last up to a week, and when I tested it out I found that wasn't true. Artifact sites despawn after about two days or so. Forage items seem to last longer, but if you want a specific artifact you really ought to go hunting every day, or every other day or else you lose a lot of chances. Luckily for me one of the two artifacts I'm missing is the Elven Jewelry which spawns in the forest which is the LARGEST DAMN AREA with the SMALLEST SELECTION OF DIRT PATCHES! Gawd, I'm gunna be looking forever! C'mon winter, spawn me something nice!
That's my experience too. Worm spots despawn after a couple of days, foragables stay all week and are wiped on sundays. Also I usually get the elven jewelry from fishing, I get loads of artifacts while fishing. I use magnets as bait and spinners as tackle when I fish for treasure. Would use dressed spinners, but I don't produce enough cloth to do that xD --- Post updated --- I'm not even kidding when I say I get loads of loot from fishing. Just went fishing one afternoon, roughly 5 hours of fishing and I came home with no less than four artifacts. And this was even with my regular setup; regular bait and trap bobbers. I do have the pirate skill bonus, so that of course helps me get the treasure chest in the first place.
I am currently down 2 artifacts, the prehistoric rib and ornamental fan, and have spent almost a full year now strictly artifact hunting and ancient wine production. I started up a new farm to check that out and in my first 5 artifacts, guess what 2 I got? I swear this game has built in trolling features.
From other artifact discussions I have read I believe that when you start a new game there is a RNG roll to select a few artifacts that will be extremely rare for you to find in that play through. From personal experience it seems to be true as I've found multiple copies of an artifact in one game which was very hard to find in another game. I guess it's to give you a reason to keep playing after 3 years or maybe it's just a prank on all them OCD folks.
