Excited yes I however think Ill live I plan on many hours spent in starbound however my real life has a way of slapping me in the face and making itself known (mainly the wife) which makes it hard to really get to sucked into any games these days. I instead relish the time I get to spend switching off from the Humdrum everyday crap that makes the world go around and pretend for just a minute that I dont in fact have to go to work tomorrow and the rent and bills will somehow magically pay themselves .... ah but if only for a moment. Bliss :D

Dwarf fortress? Pleease.... 4 hours and I gave up on trying to figure that one out... No, I didn't read a single tutorial. I want to feel like I'm immersed in a game, not like I'm programming one. Starbound is already in the top 5 things my brain thinks about on a daily basis, and the 4 that surpass it are not forum friendly. I don't think my life will change that much, except that instead of blueballing it in the forums, I will actually be living out my daydreams.

No, not at all. Possibilities/choices don't equal complexity. In fact, despite all those features, items, worlds etc people will see much of the basic content rather quickly - they won't just know all the variants of stuff thanks to randomization etc. But if you'll be able to play well on one planet, you will be able to play well on the other planets, too - despite their different biomes and so on. While the game will be quite big and offering lots of fun for a long time (presumably) the complexity of the world can hardly equal one of, say, Dwarf Fortress which - combined with it's steep learning curve - can overhelm a player far more easily (which doesn't mean it's always a good thing).

Personal immersion and troubles with learning how to play a game aren't indicator of the size of the world and complexity, either - which is what this thread is about.

When a game is so huge like this, i feel a little lost, for example: Skyrim, but later, all is fine, so im pretty excited about the beta, but not scared.

We want beta *clapX3* we want beta *clapX3*

Money is a pretty good incentive to do things. Just because Chucklefish isn't making this solely to make cash doesn't necessarily mean the game will be great. It just means the game will be made the way THEY like it.

While thats a good thing in this case, it isn't always good when Game developers develop a game to their taste rather than that of their audience.

Eh its promising a lot of diversity, I wouldn't necessarily equate that with a great deal of content.

If you have to post things like this, games are not for you. Please to not advocate making a game more causal to fit your life style. Find a game that fits your needs. I will be "wasting my time" playing what every I want because, well... it's my time to waste. Also playing games is a lifestyle so saying "well I have a life" just means you are caught up in what is considered "socially acceptable."

Morale: get your damn dirty ape paws off my game.

Just for the sake of being the devils advocate.

Lets not make a game needlessly "hardcore" either. People like to pretend that they're hardcore gamers to earn some kind of pseudo respect from other gamers, then when faced with what can really be considered a "hardcore" game, they don't find any enjoyment. Theres a difference between spending a lot of time on a game and being forced to spend a lot of time on a game. If you have no choice as to the amount of time you want to spend on the game, then Chucklefish has failed in creating a truly enjoyable experience, you shouldn't feel as though the game is a huge part of your life unless you want to make the game a huge part of your life.

I'm a gamer, I spend a lot of my time on video games, because its fun. However I stay the fuck away from any game that tries too hard to be hardcore, to the point where it is just time consuming and an exercise in futility and frustration. Some people enjoy these games, THEY ARE THE MINORITY. Chucklefish will not be doing anyone any favors (other than that minority) by making their game hardcore, they aren't appealing to "true gamers" as people like to put it, they're just appealing to masochists, that enjoy the enraging frustrations that come with games that mistake difficulty with frustrating mechanics or RNG.

I can accept that. I am rather upset with the direction many companies take their games. I blame the consoles for this. There is this epidemic of dumbing games down because let's face it.... the average human is getting dumber every generation. Sure the scientists and people actually making the world turn have intelligence, but the average person. Super dumb. It pisses me off seeing as stupid is my pet peeve.

With DF - once you're in, you're in. You stop seeing characters and colours, and start living and breathing the world. Dwarf Fortress isn't for everyone, but those who seek the challenge are rewarded enormously.

I'm actually looking forward to having a huge number of worlds to explore. I felt limited by Terraria, even when I started up new worlds with my existing character, moving between them felt like I was cheating. I think if a server can host multiple worlds, then it'll really create an inter-planetary construction experience that'll go on for a long long time.
