Are you okay with part of the funds being towards living expenses?

Where do you think ANY money goes when you buy something like this? Either it's saved and invested or its used for living expenses. you pay an artist money to make you art. that money you pay them they get for living expenses.

Absolutely, when the devs get my money in a pre-order the only thing i expect to get in return is what i payed for.
I couldn't care less what the money was used for its their money now anyways.

A lot of people don't seem to know how hard it is just for every day life problems. (mind you most probably live with parents still.) Its not like the money will go towards making some advanced graphics engine or Hair Graphics Engine (Lul JRPGS). The biggest issue facing Indie Devs are their living expenses. Food to eat, gas for the car, utilities, All things that need to be paid in order to even work on the game. It's not just helping the game but its helping your fellow man. I can think of nothing better for the money.

Why should I care? It's not like there's a binding agreement that dictates that I should know what the money I willingly is used for at every passing of the hand since leaving my bank account. Because at that point it isn't my money. It is theirs to do as they please with. Simple as that, really.

Of course they will use that money to live. Working on this game is their job ! And I'm really glad for them they raised soo much money so fast ! Means that people want to play the game and gives them motivation to work harder and deliver a better product.

All in all, I payed for a game and a game I shall get, coudn't be happier about it

OMG, are you saying that the money that we're paying for a product is being used to pay people to make the product??? We need to stop this at once! Does the Starbound team not know that they're supposed to be jamming it into their servers so that it can create the code?

What... else.. would the funds be used for? Seriously, what's the point of money/working if you can't use it to live/eat/shelter?

    This is a stupid question...

They were pretty clear that the money would be used for the employees who have two jobs so they only have one. This implies a higher wage. Wages are also part of the game dev costs.

So long as the game is polished and released before or during Q1 2014 I could really care less what the devs do with the money. Hell! They could spend it all on smack and hookers and cake, and I would remain unphased. This pre-order is about a show of faith in the developers. I have faith that they will take us all on a grand adventure through the stars.

Personally I don't care. I perceive the money going to living expenses as a way for them to maximize their work on the game rather than being distracted by a second job. In the long run the money is in some way going toward assisting development. People need to calm their tits about it.

I didn't even read the thread. Who the hell is stupid enough to say no to this though? They are people who were struggling to get by, and basicially working 2 full time jobs, only being paid for one. Ugh, how can people be so....greedy and selfish.

Use the money however you guys need to, don't stress over stupid people on the net.

i preorderd starbound i dont care what they do with the money they can spend it on a boatload of hookers and blow as long as i get my game everyones part of the deal has been fulfilled

also i saw what your talking about but it was for chasm preorders nothing like that has come up for starbound

I don't care where the pre-order money goes, at least, when I spend it next month. Honestly, I could care less, as long as it somehow helps the devs out. If they decide that hookers and blow are necessary to complete Starbound, then have it. Do it 80s Rockstar style, and ride the white tiger!

i pre-ordered for the game.. my money goes to the developers to get the game to me when it is done..

i said this in regards to another game coming on ios, "people have game companies on speed dial/social media etc etc.. and will voice any ridicule or hate towards them because they feel obligated to be part of a group/minority.. and because you are following said game company? you feel entitled to shout orders at them to make the game just for you? to use the pre-order funds to be a slave for your needs?"

today's age everything is social media.. and people find it their need to voice anything hatred if they do not understand a concept that game developers are actually human and not a robot churning out games every given sunday

Agreed and i guess this goes back to people think they are intitled to more than the game just because they pre-order and really they are not the only thing you get from pre-ordering is you help the dev out, access to the beta and any other rewards stated. You have no other rights you don't become a dev or anything close althought lucky the starbound devs do listen to alot of the fans which is good and bad but i think they are doing a great job anyways check out my other thread were i talk about this i could go on for days but i stop myself for now.

Is this really going on? Like, people are actually complaining about how the devs are making it easier for themselves to live?
