Accomplishing nothing but accidentally removing mobs from the game is not an update, nor is it "working feverishly".

I said don't care because it's impossible to say that "This is the timeline for good game development". I mean, how would you even be able to say that?

News forum can help pin down the features they are juggling at the moment. Keep in mind there's probably other boring stuff that is still not shown, not every ; is newsworthy coding.

"Not really" "Kind of", did you really need to put a "half empty" "half full" option in the poll? :p

  6. Different strokes for different folks. I almost put in a joke option -- but I felt too many people would select it

40.4/40.4 split on Yes/No. An even split, that's actually pretty funny.

    I voted 'Kind of'.
There are definitely certain things I wish they'd work on first before some of the things they've done.

One of those things is finishing up of the Towns/Villages for each race (and then the Space Stations) instead of adding new items, balancing, and whatever else.
One thing in particular is that I was under the impression the Novakids would be worked on after the other races were complete or almost complete... But the Hylotl are still barely even implemented. That is confusing.

But overall I'm fine with the progress overall. They're definitely getting somewhere with their updates. I just disagree a little bit on the 'where' part at the moment.

Though really, it's perfectly understandable why they decided to work on balancing core-mechanics before implementing what are essentially features (even if those features are fundamental). So I can't really say they aren't doing a good job. They are. I'm not sure why some people feel they aren't. I personally think those people are just spoiled and think they are entitled.

It's not a matter of being entitled. Promises were made. If it weren't for the conviction of their early release dates, I wouldn't be bothered by how long they took to get the job done.

What promises? What early release dates? I don't remember any such things ever being announced/promised.

They were announced, but the word "promise" is used incorrectly around here as often as "literally" is in the teenage girl demographic.

    What was announced?
If you can, please provide a link as well. I'd like to see for myself what it is everyone is complaining about.

To be fair, it's used incorrectly just as often in the teenage guy demographic. However, "Like" is used significantly less often in the teenage guy demographic, maybe that would be a better analogy?

  15. Way to crack out that gem. It never gets old seeing people repost that. Why don't you fish up some of the old "monster-a-week" posts and complain about cat-driven mechs while you're at it.

People makes mistakes, it's a fact of life. Underestimating timelines is something most indie game companies do. There are a select few that give themselves a lot of leeway, but Starbound was overly ambitious.

And the game is not currently "out" right now? It looks like it is to me. You can play it, can't you?

If you're being honest, the current stable build right now is indeed stable for players and contains more features than many other games will ever have in their entire existence. Some games these days are released, never updated, and never stable. I can name off many, including many games from so-called 'Triple-A' developers whom have budgets in the millions of dollars.

It's true the game is not yet 'complete' right now and still lacking some basic features.... but they've promised to continue development and they have indeed shown they are going to fulfill on that promise. So what are you expecting here exactly?
As I stated, I'm not entirely happy with the speed of development myself.... but it's perfectly understandable that the game isn't in a completed state yet. They're revamping many systems based on player feedback and their own decisions. That shows commitment. So I still have to say that people who are wanting more are acting entitled. As far as I can see an explicit list of features was never promised on any specific date or date-window.

I also want to point out that many games have given players access to beta long before Steam took on themselves 'Early Access'.... And rarely did anyone ever complain like this. The difference being that alpha/beta access has now become mainstream and it seems that consumers are confused by how this process works. But is that the developers' problem, or the consumers'? Because before now it has always been the consumers' problem, so why would it suddenly change to be the developers'?

If Starbound was no longer in development - that's when it'd be the developers problem. But it is, so it isn't.

Its not out, its still in Beta. Honestly the 2013 quote criticism is probably the one legit complaint about Starbound(for people who bought it on that assumption before the ETA's were removed). Things happen though, and Chucklefish is a new studio that hasn't perfected the fine art of guessing their release speed. It wasn't dishonestly, just a mistake.

    "Kind of."

Who really cares though? Our opinions on development speed are going to have zero impact on the date of this game's release. I don't see what a thread like this can accomplish other than pointing out yet again that some people are patiently waiting and other people are not.

    Define "out"?
Because to me that just means available to play.... Which it is.

You can argue that it means 'Complete game with all intended features' or the like..... But would the infamous "1.0" even resemble that definition? Think about this rationally.

    i vote too for idk/idc.

i honestly dont care because i dont want a rushed game. i dont have nothing else to say, people wanted progress, wanted some kind of update, and they got nightlies to show progress (which i really appreciate its not like OOO where they stopped to give info players and THEY really are cash grabbing) but people dont one play nightlies because its "too unstable" so pretty much its impossible to make happy everyone

For me? i dont care the time development take as i said i prefeer a well polished and stable game with all or even more features, rather than a rushed, buggy and incomplete game. so even if they take to the next year i will keep waiting for it because theyre could be a reason why take so long, so for me there is not need to rush the development
