Are starter pets going to be the only passive pets?

I think the idea of pets that don't directly contribute to combat is pretty cool, but not cool enough for 1m stretch goal
And would be even cooler if you could find more of them when you travel.

I'm hoping they do something, like give you buffs or something. and not be completely useless
think of a pet like a small flying bat that gives you a buff in damage, instead of attacking monsters for you.

  3. The Monsters you Capture and Tame will be equip-able to help you in Combat, there may be some command to make it be Passive / Active.

The Vanity Pets of the Goal are that, for now, Just Vanity.

Ugh, I dislike them pets. I hope I can have them carry my stuff for me, so they have some use at least.

It would be amazing if they could sell stuff for you like in Torchlight.

I'm not fussed on the pets stretch goal. Hopefully they have some sort of gameplay effect to make them useful.

To be honest a pet's a pet but if they were to give bonuses...

I would link them to tech, and have pet's be essentially an upgrade slot
so none of them would be "Useless" and you can chose them vanity wise if that's
    your thing.

Some tech could make them heal you.
Some tech would make them light up an area.
Some tech would make them charge the enemy.
Some tech would make them able to carry stuff for you like a portable chest.

The pet's still have potential if used correctly.

I think if they manage to code in passive pets it wouldn't be hard to tame a passive mob and use the same AI for the vanity pets. heck i would be surprised they don't use the pets as a tutorial to teach you how to catch legit mobs.

That sounds like a neat idea actually. It'd make the starter pet not broken by alreayd having many abilities while at the same time, keeping you in control of what it could do later on, if you so wish. I like that. oDo

Look at the stretch goal page. It mentions usefulness here(quote):
They’re not quite strong enough to fight horrifying space monsters like their randomly-generated monster counterparts, but they make for lovable and useful companions all the same!
