Are our characters ambidextrous regarding weapons?

I'm a righty, and for some reason I get weirded out when my character is left handed. In all the gameplay videos, I've seen all the characters use a weapon in their left hand. Now, when I look at the top of the HUD, it shows a slot for the left hand, AND the right, but no one ever puts the weapon in the right hand slot. So, my question is; is that a coincidental preference between who is playing in that video, or are we locked to the left hand as the weapon hand?

I wonder if there's a *Leftorium* market like Ned Flander's one in the Starbound universe...

Lol interesting I really doubt you have to use the left hand.

In the future (past?) all the races have evolved up to the point of being ambidextrous.

Acording to laws of Twodimmensionalism, your character will be left-handed or right-handed depending on which direction he'll be looking at.
Also, it's confirmed you'll be able to equip two items in some cases, like sword and shield... maybe even pistol + pistol sometimes?!

But in Starbound, if it's in your left hand, it'll always look like it's in your left hand. If you ever watched some of the livestreams, you can even see it in action.

As to the OP, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to put it in whichever hand you want, but the left-hand/right-handed items may or may not be connected to the mouse buttons? Right click uses right-hand, left uses left-hand, etc.. I'm unsure in the case of two-handed items, however.

Left hand is locked to left mouse button and vice versa. It's your choice which button/hand you prefer to use the weapon with.

I'm not sure however if you'll be able to rebind your mouse button keys!

This is a pretty early announcement, but you can dual wield any weapon on any of the two slots.

I've also seen a stream where Tiy duel wields Shields, anything one handed can be bound to either button is how it's setup now.

To add to this, some weapons like rifles, bazookas, and large hammers take both hands.
