Are Birds Bugged?

I'm in the iron gear on a level 1 planet. The things that were hitting me for 76 damage with only clothes, now hit me for 23... No problem. I went underground about 1 screen and found a bird (why the hell are birds underground?!?) And it spit a green ball at me in an enclosed passage, no possible way to dodge... 89 damage. Or firs an exploding red ball that does 80 damage in an aoe, and bounces till it hits.
So, I repeat my questions. Are birds bugged?

 

They simply took steroids and are a little more buff than they used to be. Anyhow, just do a search before you post a thread next time. It'll save you from posting a thread that has already been posted about 30 times today.
