Well, the Avians are loosely based on the Aztecs, and their name isn't along those lines. Nor are the medieval English-inspired Glitch, or the wild western Novakid. It doesn't seem to be a requirement.

The universe is a big place. The Hylotls are probably reading this over the InterPlaNet and asking, "Japa-who?"

Fair enough. But "hylotl" in particular is bad. No doubt you could get most medieval Europeans to say "glitch" fairly easily. Same with pioneers and novakids, and *probably* Aztecs/Mayans/etc. and Avians. Trying to get your average Japanese person to say Hylotl would just be bad. Hairotoru? Though, to be fair, "human" is the only race that doesn't run into an issue going into Engrish.

    Sounds a bit...stereotypical...

Until now, all the race got a name relating to... well... their race.
Apex is close to ape and is also a word that mean peak or highest point.
Avian is a word relating to birds.
Glitch, well, we all know what a glitch is dont we?
Human ... well, I'm not actually sure about the meaning behind the word. Probably come from some latin words.
Floran. Flora meaning the vegetal world, Floral relating to flower. There are many more, your pick.
Novakids. Children of a nova? Them being made of a kind of plasma and all.
And finaly, Hylotl. The tl ending is related to axolotl, the creature they are most likely related to. Not too sure about the rest of the word, maybe a reference to Hylian? Seriously doubt it tough.

Because balance is good for gameplay, maybe?

Also, they totally do look awesome. In fact, IMO they look a lot like the Bangaa in FFTA. Considering the very obvious dragon theme in the Bangaa concept and lore, I don't find it hard to accept the same for the Hylotl. I'm actually pretty surprised that other people didn't immediately reach the same conclusion that I did, but of course until Chucklefish confirms this we are really just guessing.

  9. Someone of Devs said that comes from "Hyla" (latin for tree frog).

Dragons were originally, in Japanese culture, river spirits.

    That would have made sense.

Then we have it here and it does fit perfectly.

    Well thanks I guess. ;)

  12. I'm pretty sure the lore guys did drown while writing the lore of such race. :cautious:

Well the Glitch race is Medieval and that's completely not old English language. xD What I'm saying is, they don't need to have Japanese names to dress this style.
