Anyone Lose there Character?

Just patched today, and my character decided to go Awal in the galaxy. It sucks cause I just got some neat stuff in the gamma sector and staring over makes me sad.

Hopefully future patches won't cause this, or I could be a special case.

 

Your Characters and the Worlds will be reset a few times during the Beta

 

Thoose threads... wipe has been announced and will not be the last one.

 

This was one of the patches during this beta process that wiped your character, etc. It will happen more before the game is officially released.

 

From the news post about beta stages:

The beta will come in 3 main stages.

Progenitor
Stage 1 will be move at a breakneck speed. This will be the buggiest and busiest stage of the beta. A bunch of unfinished features will be disabled whilst we finish them up. Updates will come thick and fast, sometimes as often as multiple updates a day.
If you choose to take part during stage 1 you should expect bugs, lots of balance changes, you shouldn’t get too attached to your character or universe as we may make changes that require you to start from scratch. You should expect the game to be broken at points as we make sweeping changes but you’ll get to enjoy exciting new content added constantly. The engine won’t optimized during this stage of the beta so performance could be poor on some low end machines.
You’ll get to see a bunch of ‘behind the scenes’ content at this stage and provide feedback during this crucial period.
DO take part in this stage if:
- You enjoy testing buggy and unfinished code
- You enjoy providing feedback
- You want to leave your mark on the game
- You just can’t wait any longer
DO NOT take part in this stage if:
- Bugs infuriate you
- You don’t like spoilers
- You can’t stand losing your save
- You want the full Starbound ‘experience’ the first time you play.

Can't blame you for not knowing, this wasn't announced anywhere on Steam.

You might want to ask for a refund if you're dissatisfied with the way this Early Access release is being handled, Steam usually rules in favor of the customer in those situations.

 

How hard it is to look around before you make a thread?

all characters were lost due to a complete overhaul of the weaponsystem. There is a chance that future patches in the Progenitor phase of the Beta will cause this again.

That's from the website, not from Steam. Steam being where plenty of players like OP purchased the game.

 

They said it on the official website. So steam buyers do not do research especially on a beta that gets patches alot?

Again it's beta so people may want to keep up with the news if they don't want these "surprises"

 

Well I won't be asking You thats for sure. Theres already thousands of such threads.

 

I'm not at home at the moment, but in Steam it is pretty clearly marked as 'Early Access' with some obvious caveats listed about being in beta and all that. Not sure if it named resets off the top of my head, but it is to be expected at this stage of development.

 

Ahh well that makes sense, I thought I was the only one in the boat, but guess we'll sail together

It says "early access" on Steam. If you buy a game in the early access program, expect these things to happen. Research the game to see how far its development has progressed. If you don't and there are bugs, wipes or other things that usually happen during development, please don't complain that Steam didn't warn you. They did. So did Chucklefish.

 

It doesn't matter. If they're too dumb to check the official website that all the news for the game goes through, then how's that anyone's fault but their own?

 

It's the internet, minimum requirements to log in are douchebaggery.
