Anyone know how to unlock schematics?

Hi there folks,
I was under the impression that the 3D printer would scan items and all but it doesn't have much functionality at all it appears to me that i can only scan and duplicate seeds can anyone enlighten me on how to unlock schematics and get some good use out of the 3D printer please.

You only get schematics by scanning stuff into it. Pretty sure it only works for placable items.

 

you could also scan all decoration-items... dont know if they have changed it recently, havent checked

 

I havent played since pre-wipe but I tried scanning loads of items that i found in dungeons, like blood banks and stuff, but it didnt seem to do anything.

For crafting new items? You can buy them from NPCs or find them in chests. If you have blueprints, you just use like a consumable item and it unlocks.

have the blueprint in your hand and leftclick .. schematic learned ..

alternatively, drag the schematic out of the inventory and just left-click anywhere on the open part of the screen.
