anyone have details or change notes on the new 1-8-2014 update?

 

I don't think the update has rolled out yet. At least not for me. And auto update is on for me also.

 

I just restarted steam and no update happened so I don't think it's live

 

Yep i haven't seen the update push out on my end, manual force update attempts have resulted in 0... successful updates sent to my side. :/ i know its out though, i dont know if it was made public, i think more so... it wasn't made public yet, probably why.. unless the steam servers are getting hit so hard that their doing updates in queue like say... x,y,z players are getting it now, once they complete move onto next queue. That or their currently testing the new build before its unflagged as a test upload.. i mean after all... im expecting these epic new stability updates that is suppose to be a entirely new overhaul of the .exe and server.exe updating things and forcing a pushed wipe on... well everything :/ the many will cry when the wipe happens..

 

We were told about the wipe like. . . a week? Two ago now?

I'm, personally, just looking forward to it at this point. I'm glad to see it's likely to be very soon.

 

well according to the date, even though it was updated on the server; it specifies that the update would be tomorrow?! Well that is what I get from that. 8th is tomorrow for me. Well that is good if it is, gives me time to backup and look forward.

 

The devs often upload test builds so they can check things out. Doesn't necessarily mean we'll be getting an update anytime soon.

 

Lol already disabled automated world backups, and im getting preped to wipe my server and stuff on it. :/ its gonna be a sad day... 9 starter worlds were made.. 9 will be caught on fire and burned to the ground on new update. Lol

As for the crying, i think everyone has a lil bit of them die inside, for the hard work, and effort they put into their own "building" will basically be... tossed out the window. Meh, ill get over it. Just sucks halfing to constantly rush to end game to get equipment then to rebuild the entire world and all that funstuff all over again. Only thing im glad to hear of is that this new update will be beneficial to us with new stability improvements and a major overhaul requiring a enforced universe and player folder wipe. The problem? Im more than certain this being the "Final" forced wipe will push it so that certain hotfixes will require everyone to manually wipe their stuff or be forced to be left in the dark or with out support on prior builds.

All i can say is "ehh happens" and "its expected" considering this is a Alpha *ahem* Beta Tier 1 (or was it Beta Tier 2 stage?) based game that i was given a hint at during questioning with the sales team in IRC

 

Ya, i'm really looking forward to just getting this last wipe over with. I shed a tear every time I go to the main page and see no update today. Really hope this is a legit patch and not just a dev test.

 

Wait, new update soon? cripes oh criminy I'm going to bed soon and when I wake up it'll be christmas all over again.

 

This. I've stopped playing until this happens. I didn't make a base with Angry Koala to save myself the pain, just played through as space nomad/cowboy/executioner. So many dead Avians...

 

Remember guys, you can backup the whole Starbound folder. Just go to Steam/SteamApps/common/ ,make another copy of StarBound folder in the same place, rename it to something like StarBound (Angry Koala). Any updates will be done only to the main folder, you can always come back to play this beta version. The player's character and universe (player and universe folders) are, therefore, separated from the time of the backup.

When you want to play this version, just navigate to the back-up folder and launch the game from there instead of using steam's interface.

 

Meh i see no reason to do that, lose out on epic content? might as well not buy the game if you cannot get over loss of data until the games finished

 

So just kind of like a pocket in tiiime... a lackluster, linear sandbox, broken-featured pocket in tiiiiime...

 

Yeah, personal preference, it's an option for someone who really want to keep their character.

For me I really like keeping different versions of the game, to come back at one point in the future and see how the game has progressed. Anyone else enjoy history?

 

You know why people have eyes in the front?

Because they have to move forward to see the landscape in the distance.

If you had eyes in back all you could see is your home town getting farther away; you can't move forward like that. If your eyes are in front what you see in the distance keeps getting closer. That's what lets people move forward.

 

Maybe not in the same way, as I don't know if it is. But I do enjoy having back up of different versions to dote on the characters I have made in those past ones. I do like history to a degree, but it is more like keeping a treasure and/or memory of was. maybe to reference what I have built or done. So I can look back and look forward at the same time.

 

I take pictures.... it helps me remember the past easier. lol

 

Can't tell if trolling or just way too philosophical.

 

I wish they would post some type of announcement about this if it is coming out tomorrow.
