Check the assets, theres an item called "Space Marine Armor", Red glowing eyes, but red armor. Probaly theres a way to dye it black aswell.

About 5 minutes from that you'll find an avian village, there is a Venetian Mask in a chest
1 minute after the village, you'll find a big chest with a Legendary 1 handed Pistol (1514 dps)

 

A strange er.... Apex village..? is on this desert planet,with acid rain.
Head LEFT to see it,its a mix of glitch tiles/bone blocks..and apex villagers..

Yeah that has also red glowing eyes, didnt think of that...

But what I have found was this:



Looks more like an nanosuite/powerarmor to me... and I am pretty sure there are ways to dye that armor black.

Its located in steamapps, common, starbound, assets, items, armors, other, spacemarine

There are also some other unused sprites and datafiles, so if you dont want to spoil possible future content dont look into that at all.

Head left, you'll find 1 Surface chest with a "doctor spawner" & "Microphone", keep heading left and you'll find another surface chest with the "Wedding Dress" Top, if you keep going left. You'll run into a high security apex lab.
If you head right, you'll find a floran Altar.

 

Just tried it. Got assorted loot. No hat.

 

Beam down to this planet and you'll spawn right on top of a huge lab with a Matter block machine.

To everyone posting coordinates to loot: chest content is RANDOMIZED. Just because you found something good in a chest doesn't mean the others will too.

Wrong, surface chests are generally the same (if using the same version), while chests in houses, dungeons etc tend to not be the same.

head left, you'll run into a couple chests, check them, the last one before you hit a florian village will contain a
ACOUSTIC GUITAR. then head into the florian village, up the first tower there will be a large primitive chest (possibly, again in house chests?) that contains a
FANCY HAT, then head over to the next florian tower, should be a pretty long climb up. you'll find a
PIANO, which is actually a keytar.

Head left of spawn and you'll find a airship selling some pretty good weapons, as well there's some loot in the chests scattered around the airship.

 

as of the most recent update this has turned into an asteroid field

 

X level airship anchor at beam down location, with a 2nd one not too far to the left. also got a lucky 3549 damage bonehammer off a miniboss.

 

As many others have already said, you're incorrect. Pretty much every surface chest remains the same (there are some reports that people on Mac and Windows have different chests but that's it).

The only chests that seem to be randomly generated are those inside NPC villages/buildings.
