What with the game being in early development, and the multitude of features it's purported to have, is anyone else worried it will either really disappoint, or not materialise at all? I'm really looking forward to this game, so dread to think it could fizzle out.

I would hate for something like this to fizzle out or not live up to standards. All of the features stated look amazing and god knows what they will add next!

I think Tiy and the rest of the devs are doing a really good job of keeping their promises so far, but i would like to see, some gameplay as proof. But im not to worried at all.

If it ends like that, I will be very disappointed, but with the developers' blog and all the details to this website I doubt it will end that way; the developers seem passionate about this game and they wouldn't just give up on it like that.

Just don't want to get my hopes up. It sounds like it's going to be amazing.

I wouldn't call it early development. A lot of the features it's reported to have, are features that have already been tested, and incorporated in the game and are probably working well. I'm not worried in the least about it fizzling out, either. I'll admit, it's a rather aspiring project, and an ambitious one, but eventually it will come out. When it does, I'm sure it'll be good.

[Dangerous comparison] Even IF (Not saying it will be) it is just Terraria with procedurally generated weapons/enemies, it will be wildly popular, extremely fun, very marketable, and will sell awesomely well. I have high hopes for the games, but I'm not worried at all. I'm sure Tiy himself, while helping to Develop Terraria, was asking himself those questions that always spawn the concepts/ideas of new games. "What if this could happen, what if this were in this game, what if this monster could do that?" The Dev team have very capable coders, very talented artists, very creative ideas, a very expandable canvas in which to work and add new features, and an awesome community to support them. With all that being said, I have utmost faith in this game.

    TL;DR: Me? Worried? Naaaaah.

I doubt the game would just "fizzle out" since they have put so much into it already. Some of the devs might be banking on it doing well for all we know.

This project seems too well organized to be vapor. I've followed some vaporware projects before, and usually you can feel the gap between the goals and the programmer's capability pretty early on.

As long as it allows me to explore endlessly, it won't disappoint. =)

How long as it been in development? Just out of interest.

I seriously doubt that Starbound will just disappear. We were just shown the first gameplay footage, so we know it is working game. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's even close to being finished, but we do know there is a stable platform upon which they can build. I would compare it to Minecraft back in InDev. It was buggy, and didn't have many features, but it worked. I think that Tiy and the team are more than capable of turning this game into a phenomenal game well worth our wait.

I remenber I was very worried with Terraria, and when it came out, I was felt the same way that I felt with minecraft: First love on sight.
Now that I've a seen little of the gameplay in the lighting demo, I can rest assured it will be a very good game. I hope the price is not too salty, it's the only thing i'm thinking about right now.

i have no doubt the game will be released, if it gets hyped too much some players might get disappointed but meh

Judging by the success that Terraria and Minecraft have had, I think it would be a horrible idea not to finish at least making a build of the game suitable for release to the public. I'm sure the devs realize this too. Also, judging by how ambitious the project is, I have good reason to believe that the devs realize this. The chance that game will flop seems to be very slim. It may be over hyped, which can eventually be fixed overtime with mods and patches.

To sum up everything I'm saying, I think we have nothing to worry about.

The worst case scenario is that of the Mega Man Legends 3 bust. They had game play shown, commercials, large forums, and a lot of fan input, in the end it was cancelled for whatever reason... Hopefully this will never come to pass.

I think they'll manage to deliver on most of their promises. They do seem to have a dedicated team working on the whole thing after all, and are trying their best.
