Anyone else noticed how awesome these 'Undead Bonehammer' type weapons are for mining?

This thing can take out an arcing motion about 8-10 blocks high and 3-4 deep in just a couple swings!, it's really nice for going horizontally underground.

Well it won't let me attach an image, it just comes up with a broken link, so here's a link to the image: http://imgur.com/ivMu4lj

I found it (and a second one that I gave to a friend) by killing those randomly larger-versions of normal monsters with a red glow about them. It's also really strong for combat.

I have it, but I got it roughly around the same time I got the silver pickaxe, which one-shots dirt.

So yeah, it's nice if you get it early. I still use it for fighting due to it's reach, but the armor pen is low, so I feel I'll replace it soon enough.

I have a silver pickaxe too, but it's still not as fast as this when you're trying to take out large amounts, and you don't have to bother changing back and forth :p

I found one when I just got my Platinum pickaxe (Playing on a level 7 planet) And well, very usefully for clearing away dirt and gravel since it doesn't break!

Ah, didn't think about durability. Especially with expensive pickaxes.

I didn't think about that either, definitely gonna hold onto this thing then lol

    I got one off a mini-boss!

Mine is named dwarf killer or something silly like that.
    Edit: It's "Apechopper" lol.

Green explosion and three large bones.
Do they all have the same effect or does the color and amount of projectiles differ?

Anyway yeah it's amazing for clearing off dirt, fun for mining and also makes one hell of a mess when I fight with it in an Avian dungeon!
It keeps dislodging stairs, but I have double jump so it doesn't bother me. I think it's awesome!

Pickaxes don't break, they just get weaker. You can recharge them with any ore (seems the better the ore, the more it recharges) so it's not very hard to maintain them.

How strong is using a weapon compared to a pickaxe anyway?

Mines is the apechopper as well, but it throws about 6 bones I think.

I didn't know that they came in different varieties but apparently so, mines green too but shoots 5 small bones instead. Not a huge difference but at least it is one lol

I found one yesterday in a hut with saw blades on the ceiling. I opened the door and this grim reaper looking dude came after me and I found it in a chest inside the building. It's awesome for clearing dirt, sand, and gravel in caves! Only 2 armor penetration though.

Well nevermind mine seems to shoot a whole bunch of them too. They just clumb up in tight spaces.
That's what I get when I go from memory after playing 17 hours straight. :p

I found mine in an avian village, it throws 6 large bones and I use it for mining, I dont remember the name though. It one shots most enemies :p doing 100+ damage if I directly hit them. It does around 42 on other enemies.

Yeah I love my hammer and I don't like hammers, I found mine on a desert strewn with bones.

I got one at level 20, it's neat but not really faster than gold picks or above. mostly just breaks the blocks under you when you're trying to fight bosses with it, which is pretty annoying actually, but not really gamebreaking.

You can repair picks using Copper Ore thus making durability literally a non-issue. Copper is an insanely common resource and it means I can just bash rocks all day long, carefree. If my pick gets low on durability I just rub some of the few hundred Copper I've found on it and continue frolicking in the earth.
