Anyone else feel guns are a tad on the weak side?

Guns need serious buffing. The trade off in comparison to melee should either be a trade of mobility for range or damage for range, but not both. Right now, in order to make a gun useful I have to build an impromptu barrier out of whatever material is in my inventory and engage in a prolonged gun battle with the attacking opponent. That of course is only in the case of an enemy that uses a firearm. In the case of charging opponents, mobility or high damage are necessary to keep the opponent from overwhelming the gunner.

I agree, guns are not worth of using usually. They have no knockback and they use your energy far to quickly. When the target gets too close, I don't have any energy left to use for evasive techs. It's not practical and makes them useless. Bone hammer ftw

Some basic classifications like "high damage - low knockback - high energy cost" or "low damage - high knockback - low energy cost" could work.

Honestly, I really don't like the guns in Starbound at all. One of the big reasons is because it requires energy to shoot a bullet. You know, a chunk of metal. It'd make more sense to cost energy to shoot a laser weapon, but bullets aren't lasers.

While others might not be too keen on the idea of having ammo in Starbound, I think it'd be a good idea in the long run; they'd get an obvious increase in power while still requiring you to keep an eye on how much you're shooting. One of the things I loved about Terraria was interchangeable ammo- explosive rounds, rounds that break into tiny shards, confusion bullets, poison bullets... it added a lot of variety and different options for strategy, if needed or applicable. Here it's just whatever the gun shoots. I'd like my incendiary and cryo rounds, possibly some electric rounds. And heck, make some difficult-to-craft black hole bullets for all I care.

I know it won't happen but eh. Maybe a mod someday.

Guns fall into one of three categories: cheap, utility, or useless.

Cheap because it's easy to set up an impromptu bunker and use a gun to safely dispose of a rampaging miniboss.

Utility: I just found this pistol that shoots out this glowing, bouncing, rolling ball. It does pitiful damage as is the norm, but the projectile lasts long enough and it sheds enough light that I can send it down a cave to see what's there.

    Useless is self-explanatory

Although I did find a tier 3 shotgun that was actually fantastic. Not only did it do decent damage for its tier, but the six or eight projectiles it shot ricocheted off walls. It was absolute murder in confined spaces.

i have a T10 legendary grenade launcher i use pretty exclusively. it wrecks face. agree that 99.9% of them are reasonably useless though.
