I'm curious as to if there is any info on stuff like this. I'm sure the devs are considering this given each race has a unique backstory behind them, which the character themselves are a part of.

And I mean stories revolving around the particular race rather than a single story with branching arcs for each race type. Stories revolving specificly around the problems a particular race has and how they help resolve them, if in any way.

Each race has a backstory, and will eventually have a video introduction in the game. You can read their official descriptions on each of their wiki pages. Some, like the Avians, have an expanded history on there as well.

There are also many stories, including comics, linked to on The Starbound Chronicle page.

And there are hundreds of codex entries, most of which are very short stories. Some of them are more expansive, covering a dozen codex entries.

I think I actually kind of like the current system we have now with books. Sure, some of the books are just jokes or utterly
pointless, but it's pretty neat just finding little bits and bobs of history and information on the races just laying around in
chests and bookshelves here and there.

True. My problem with books is the list of codexes gets so long. I wish they could be put into folders like categories, or something.

They already have, but they shouldn't be left in the background. Rather, they should be part of the gameplay, being related to some missions, and even influencing it.

Gothraga Was Born Under a liquid miracle gro holding tank, out side the suburbs of the Colony of space California. He Grew up on a diet of Local :kitten2: until being picked up by a nice old cat-lady and planted in her garden next to the morning glory vines.
There he stayed happily Munching on :kitten: by night and watching his Friend beast watering the garden year after year, until 1 day she figured out what he was:chrono: and in terror she tripped over a garden gnome fell Hitting her head on a rock.
Thinking it was hurt Gothraga Sprung into action to help the friend beast! :idea:Thanks to his strong instinct Gothraga knew what to do when hurt! So he promptly Buried the unconscious old woman upside down with nothing but her legs sticking out of the Ground.
Every day Gothraga Would dump water on her from the bottles in the cold box she seemed to like so much. After more then Week She had Wilted and turned funny color's, Gothraga Knew his Friend beast had Died.
Even more tragic she had not even dropped a hart-seed after wilting. The poor thing had bin planted nearly two weeks ago and had not sprouted a single leaf.
She was Dead.:( Without the friend beast to put down the Icky bit's the :kitten2: had all gone away accept for one or two who came to sniff at his friend. Another sad week passed.
one night Gothraga climbed over the Vine covered fence Walked backed to the miracle gro Plant where he was born there he Fell asleep in a large container marked To space-Australia. That Night a Dropship picked up the container and Gothraga Set out on the Adventure of a life time!

They should be having story intros at the very least, as Tiy uploaded two work in progress openings recorded for the Humans and the Avians back in 2013, narrated by Logan Cunningham, who is best known for narrating Bastion.

Hopefully they still have it on the agenda over at Chucklefish to implement these and for the other races as well. Who knows, maybe they have much more planned for mid-game & end-game cutscenes as well.

Nice, look forward to the Glitch and Floran ones if they still plan to do these.
