Any way to find out an NPC's name without killing them?

I've landed on a planet and my beam-down spot is right next to a big Glitch village. I've decided to make this place my home but I was hoping to be able to identify my new neighbours by name - is it possible?

I don't think you can. Best just name em' yourself!

Just kill them all, get their names, and erect a memorial :)

    Exxil3d and sankto like this.
  4. I know you can see other players name's via pressing alt. But as far as NPC names go, you don't know until another npc yells out "YOU KILLED *******"

I'm guessing once they start adding the donor chosen NPC names they'll make it possible to see them.

That would be useful if you could do that. One of my favorite parts though about killing NPCs is seeing their ridiculous names.

They're not going to give up their shiny axe voluntarily...

I hope not.. It would ruin the fun of chasing them down, mercilessly murdering them over petty greed, and bathing myself and the general surroundings in what used to be their internal organs.. When I pick up my well earned reward, I will hold the shiny new axe over my head while an iconic tune will play.. Maybe I should shape the gore pile in the shape of a chest and put it in there first, then dramatically open it and do the pose and tune? Hmmm... I might need to get an annoying floating light bulb too..

Wasn't one of the rewards for either kickstarter or early access was name an NPC? Seems kinda foolish to have to kill and NPC to see their name, to see if it might just be the NPC you named as an early backer reward...

Their names are usually "AAAAAAAHHHH" or "Have mercy", because that's what they say when I attack them.

Actual I'm a Glitch.. Yes, Glitch is more fitting for me than you'd think.. My AI is so Glitchy that I am not peaceful like most Glitch..

So NPCs are all Pokemon? Pokemon mainly say their names and fragments of it.. NPCs! GOTTA CATCH'EM ALL!!

  13. Just name everyone "Will Smith" and "Amanda".
    Here, problem solved.

Hm, I wish there was some kind of a name indicator really or a dialogue menu =/

A world where everyone knows everyone in their city by name is a better world than ours.

NPCs in Starbound are all part of an intergalactic fight club...

In death, he has a name. His name was Banana Legs

    NPCs should drop Flesh Strands.

    1. Murder guard
    2. Guard drops weapon
    3. Make chest out of guard's remains
    4. Place guard's weapon in chest made of remains

Huh. Y'know, here I thought this forum existed to help make Starbound a better game. Turns out I was wrong. Clearly this forum's purpose all along has been to make this very post possible.
