Any substantial updates yet?

I quit playing Starbound because frankly it got really boring after a week of play. Maxed out gear, explored every type of environment, built some awesome stuff.

Have there been any actual content updates? I haven't played in about a month maybe two.

I hope it is substantial. Honestly, I currently regret helping the company by purchasing the Beta. Their work has been incredibly slow.

    • Warned for inflammatory post
Quick info, they moved a crapton of people to England, bro.

They convinced many of their crew to wilingly give up living in their own countries to join them, managed to get visas and paerwork done for all of them, find a studio, furnish it,etc.

While it took about 2 months or so,in less than 2 weeks a major update is coming.

Word of advice, shut up and deal with it,now they can actualy make significant updates fast for you and us,quit being an ungratefull lil sh:love:t,ok?

As much as I understand the frustration surrounding people who are seemingly impatient and feel the need to comment on what they view as "slow development", there's no need to be rude. It's a possibility that the OP here wasn't aware of the move, for one thing, and even if he was, impatience isn't a crime. There is absolutely no reason to directly attack or be so rude to someone who, for all intents and purposes, stated their opinion and asked a harmless question. White-knighting is just as bad as whining.

How is expecting progress to be made being ungrateful? People like you hold so little substance to your argument that you are forced to use ad hominem attacks. Your "defense" of Chucklefish holds no substance. They have not been producing content for this game at any near a reasonable rate.

As a customer I don't care what their excuses are. They should be producing content. They have not produced any worthwhile update in months. Expecting them to do so does not make me a vile individual. When they start producing content at a reasonable rate I will not complain. Frankly the fact ship upgrades aren't even in the game yet is beyond ridiculous.

Its a case of simple ignorance of the OP and how he simply.by not knowing anything, insulted the developmente team, something I mysel have done and regret.

Tiy and the team are developing the game now extremely fast and with significant development being made.It angered me how he simply said how he was dissapointed.Blew off some steam, and for that,I do in fact apologize.
Then again,he literaly could have just made a quick stop by the change logs and realized what hapened in the meantime instead of making the thread,no?

Bah,way too tired from personal life, apologies are due.

And that is effectively false, they have been making significant changes to ships,of wich includes a completely new function, ship A.I,working on the ships themselves and the progression of the said(how they will grow within tiers) and general bug fixes and I belive some mod related issues have been adressed.

So,no,they have been doing some stuff.

I did not once insult the development team? I am disappointed in their development progression.

Well, to be entirely truthful, Fatikis, your argument as well has very little substance. You say they should be producing content, and they are - just not at a rate that you would prefer. You are not the only paying customer, and plenty of the other customers are incredibly pleased with the progress. You are a mere drop in the bucket that is crowd funding.

To say that they haven't produced any worthwhile content in months, is, again, an incredibly skewed way of looking at it. They have produced plenty of content in the past couple of months, even while dealing with all of the trouble that comes with employee migration. It simply hasn't been released, because they want it to be a rather large update and with all rather large updates comes an extensive testing period. Don't pretend like you wouldn't be complaining if they released a near broken update simply because you were tired of waiting and couldn't wait for it.

You are correct in saying your expectations do not make you a vile individual, I do agree with you there. We all have our expectations and standards, however impossibly high or disappointingly low they may be, and we should respect that of one another.

However, I find that you saying 'how ridiculous the absence of ship upgrades is'...well, ridiculous. I didn't realize you knew exactly how much planning, coding, drafting, pixel-arting, scraping, reworking, and testing went into making a function as huge as the tiered ship upgrades was required! And all while the team was split apart, moving across oceans and any from their families, and also creating content for the combat system as well? You must be some sort of calculating mastermind. While I don't like white-knighting, entitlement might just beat it out.

With an attitude like that, buying early access games probably isn't for you. A "reasonable rate" is, by its very meaning, judged on a per person and per project basis, and can even change over time -- no two people will ever agree.

It's alright, sometimes it's just easier to blow off some steam on the internet when a lot is going on, and I completely understand. We've all been there.

I've been plenty please with other Beta cycles. So far Starbound and the DayZ are the only disappointing Betas I have been part of.

I see a lot more people pretty upset about the slow progress of the game. They have not shown any substantial progress to the public. I never pretended to be the only paying customers. And there are at least as many individuals disappointed in the development progress as there are that are pleased with it.

They have literally not produced worthwhile content pushed to our clients in months. That is not an exaggeration.

Also no need for your sarcasm. And yes, I have a background in programming and pixel art. I am not a master. I am a novice with both. However yes even I can tell the progress we see is considerably slower than it should be if it was being worked on by the team as a full time job.

Fair enough. Though when buying into a beta, one should still always expect the possibility that, for one reason or another, updates slow to a trickle for an undetermined amount of time. Since the way I look at buying betas, is more along the lines of "a cool way to show I'm interested in what the final product will be with the added bonus of early access, even if I don't play said early access much" rather than "hey, this is a cool game that will be updated often and will continue to get lots of new content as I play."

Well, it's hard to literally not produce worthwhile content, since literally is usually, you know, literal, and "worthwhile" is very subjective. But anyway...

I think that if you were reading their updates, you would know that this has NOT been worked on as their full time job every week since January. Several of them have been packing up, applying for visas, selling their houses / ending their leases, and convincing their family to do the same, so that they can board a plane and move to the UK. And then they have to find a place to live, get settled, figure out transportation, and then start working fulltime again.

    These things take time.

Does this make updates come out faster? Not right now, but updates should come out faster now that the team is assembled and up to speed in the new UK office. Short term loss (no updates for awhile) for long-term gain (updates should now come out faster).

So, I would recommend that you just wait and see when the first update comes out, and then see if the second update comes out in what you believe is a reasonable amount of time. And don't worry about the definition of "reasonable" because your definition is the only one that matters to you. Likewise, don't worry about convincing others that your definition is the right one.

You're right. it's an opinion, which I wholeheartedly respect.

Fair enough, I probably could have gotten my point across without the sarcasm. It's a nasty habit, I apologize. They weren't working on it full time. The time differences made that incredibly difficult, which is why they relocated, which took time. A couple of months worth, because of all of the visas and paperwork, along with several goodbyes and days set aside for moving in and becoming used to their surroundings, I'm sure. But one must remember, the Devs are only human, and were most likely not solely focused on working during this time. That being said, the relocation will be INCREDIBLY beneficial in the long term - as it will improve their collaboration efforts ten fold.* As a result, improving the time we see between updates.

*Not an actual statistic, I have no clue in all honesty. But the point is...improvement! =D

I wouldn't exactly place money on this...but the way I read his post, I took it to mean that he posted an informational update on the progress being made to Starbound, not that there was going to be a GAME update today. I don't follow the site religiously though, is that how he normally lets us know that a game update is coming, or have people confused the wording a bit here out of frustration and hope.

As far as I go, I'm a little unhappy with how this has gone in terms of updates, the lack of which have stopped my collective group from playing for the foreseeable future. But I also don't believe I am OWED updates at a specific speed. I'm just sad, because I really enjoy SB, but have run out of things to do/people to play with, and I can't blame people for getting a little bored when you reach the content cap and don't have much else to do yet, and they kinda bugged themselves over by saying that they'd have almost daily updates (which I am aware one of the devs retracted due to the move business and all that)

Basically what I'm saying is I'm not blaming anyone for having real life factors, but I can also understand the desires of a bored gamer sitting on the crux of something they know they'll be able to enjoy for a long time to come, if only they'd put some substantial updates forth in a more timely manner. It works both ways, and I don't believe that either side being rude to the other is going to help.

I knew there was a lot to be done to move to the UK, but I didn't know they had to do that much. Damn.
