If you could change anything about your farm, or your farmer, what would you change? Personally, I wish I'd chosen Trapper/Mariner instead of Angler/Pirate. I don't sell a lot of fish (or fish much in general) and so I don't get much use out of the Pirate trait either. I've got about 24 fishing traps scattered around the Valley and it never ceases to annoy me when more than half contain garbage. Garbage is exactly that. Garbage. The recycling machine doesn't even matter b/c all you're making is the lowest tier items anyway (rocks, woods, torches, etc.) The *most useful* item garbage can be made into? Refined quartz, and I've got that in abundance anyway! I'm pretty content with everything else on my farm, except I do wish I'd placed my initial farm and coop better. I like how close they are to my house (I like all my production as centralized as possible rather than scattered across my farm), but the space for grazing is so small I have to refill their paddock with grass at least twice a season. I can't expand their paddock either, b/c on one side are my fields and on the other are my orchards...Still, I can live with it. Refilling their paddock with grass isn't a problem b/c I can afford all the grass I'll ever need. C'est la vie.
Kind of funny timing for this question, considering I'm about to sit down and play the very last day on my current save file - I'm at the end of year 5, and this was my first farm. So naturally, I learned by trial and error. And while I'm pretty happy overall with my progress and my farm, I do kind of wish I'd slowed down on the dating scene a bit. I pretty much threw myself at Sebastian as quickly as I was able to - friended him up to 8, tossed flowers in his face to get him to 10, and then had to wait through winter for the pendant...which gave me a season to date him before we got married. I think I missed out on a lot of cute dating dialogue as a result, so I sort of wish I would have taken things slower. BUT that's what the second file is for. I'm slowing way down, not just with him (cuz yes, I do plan to marry him again, I can't really see my character with anyone else lol) but with everything. No rushing, no grinding, no stressing to fill bundles...just a nice, relaxed playthrough that I set the pace and choose what I want to specialize in. Even the house upgrades...I hurried to get the biggest house too and I want to see what I can do with the smaller spaces, since I have seen very cute setups even in the smallest cabin.
:O This game has an end? Nooooooooo.... Having said that I'm still in the first spring so plenty to enjoy yet.
Lysa - no it doesn't have an end. But you might eventually get to the stage where there is nothing left to do but make more money and/or keep tweaking the layout of your farm. My first game ended midway through year 6. I'm currently on my 3rd playthrough which is just a shameless money grab (currently at 35 million, trying to get to 100). Some people play multiple times to marry all the different possible spouses.
I think I might be doing the same. I'm on my firs Spring, the flower dance festival is tomorrow and I'm already at 5 hearts with Haley just because I wanted to have a partner on my first flower dance. Ofc this was only possible because she had her birthday before the event, otherwise I'd still be at 4 hearts with her despite all the weekly gifts.
Hmm, I don't really have any major regrets. I just see it as a different way of playing that game if I pick something I turn out to dislike. Like I picked bats for the farm cave in my first playthrough. That would've been a regret if I was stuck on that save forever, BUT I can just start a new save and call the bat cave a different experience. So no, I haven't really had any notable regrets.
My biggest regret was spending time gifting people stuff they liked from the beginning. I should have realized that gifting is most effective on birthdays, thus giving me more days to focus just on making the farm first and being profitable. Then on birthdays I can easily gift to get many bonus hearts. I also regret not finding a way to learn how to spread my fields around, because I'm wasting so much time watering my plants when I could have used sprinklers. Plus, I had no idea you could hold left-click to spread the water at a large radius, which makes me want to get the gold watering can at least!
I really wish I picked the more geodes skill (idk what it's called) rather than the "sell gems for more money" because frankly I could've used a lot more geodes. Other than that I really don't really have any regrets. I do kinda wish I dated Abby a little more because I feel like I missed some of the dating dialogue, but hey trial and error ya know? Now I'm just waiting for 1.1 to add on to farm and do all that, and I kinda wish I left some space for the new buildings cause I have not a lot of space for new buildings, but I still have space, and I can always remove and move stuff, so it's not necessarily a regret, just something that I could've thought through better.
I regret ordering the soup instead of the salad. Funny, I had the the opposite problem. I selected for more geodes and suddenly I was so flooded with the darn things I was schlepping stacks of them to Clint every single day. It finally got so annoying that I did my one and only bit of save-file editing for the game, ever, to take the Gemologist skill instead, and since then, blissful peace.
I started a new save yesterday and i'm taking things much slower this time. On my first save o rushed to the end of the mines, got animals just for bundles, didn't have a fruit tree until year 4 and heavy focused on crops. Also married penny ASAP (yeah, tought she would fix fenced much more often)... Also I got firstly the trapper skillset thinking i'd make a ton of cash... Yeah, 50 fishtraps and some time later it wasnt that good... About the skills, you can edit your save file and change them: https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewVal...sa_if_you_chose_the_wrong_profession_you_can/
Hmm maybe it wasn't too much of a bad thing then, but I still wish I got more geodes so I got some of the rarer gems earlier, and still I haven't even gotten all of the gems.
Starting a new save these last few days. My last one was a completionist run but it wound up being pretty stressful, running around trying to gift everyone and wasting the whole day, or the extra pressure to go as far as I could in the skull mines. I'm taking this new game really slow, only focusing on one NPC at a time (besides birthdays). Also got too wound up in the money-making instead of just enjoying the elements of the game for what they are.
I regret that on my first playthrough I never gotten to know the other characters since I focused on getting money and zipped through the bundle quest that I completed it around the second year. I ha around 30 mil at that time and nothing to do anymore. This playthrough, due to wanting to try another profession, I chose Agriculturist instead of Artisan, and I regret it. It made the later half of the seasons horribly rushed, since I had to harvest almost every single day... I swear I'm developing finger cramp due too much clicking.
My one regret is that i never dated that pretty girl in highschool. Oh wait, you mean regrets in THIS game, well, not really, i'm happy with everything i have done as well as the pace which i took to do it. I am more like curious about the interactions with the other spouses (besides Penny) but i haven't got the patience right now to start a new save and do everything all over again.
Ye I took the cat, but he is constantly jumping around which makes the same sound effect as a finished machine/tapper, so I went crazy before I knew it. Should have taken the dog who just barks.
my only regret is sebastian telling me that "i should learn to cook, that would be useful." and then every other day i get COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE.. what a bummer. i don't even drink coffee in real life :/ i can never understand.
In a world in which ice cream is considered a cooking dish, i'm not surprised. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=726840752
i wish i would have used most of my refined quartz to craft more sprinklers before crafting crystal paths
