Any Possibility of Supporting Mac OS 10.7.5?

I thought mac users had finally realised that using a suboptimal OS means issues?
Dont get me wrong im no widows fan but seriously if you play games of any sort the first os that comes to mind is NOT mac, regardless of who says they will support it

Hell even linux is less of a bastard to work with

But hey, thats a good idea, make a gaming partition, install the SUPPORTED version of linux, and hey guess what you can play too :D

Maybe some people just enjoy having a mac? Maybe they dont like windows.. or linux.. maybe they dont game as often as windows users? and found that starbound was for mac and they were excited to play it? Why even bring up windows? This topic is about support for macs.

Because people are whining without doing almost anything to help the situation themselves, I have no issues running the game, but thats because i go in with REALISTIC expectations of what i should be running especially for a beta test

I spose money can buy macs but it doesnt buy them owners any common sense

See now your just causing childish arguements of PC vs Mac.. i have both and i prefer using my mac because my PERSONAL PREFRENCE its not because ones better than the other. If the developers say it will me compatible with Mac.. then why cant we have our questions answered aswell?

    lol
There is no arguement in pc versus mac, anyone who games seriously uses a pc im not arguing im stating a solid fact
And the game is compatible with mac, from 10.8 onwards, its not a hard premise to grasp

Macs have great uses in the video editing and photo and 3d worlds, but they are not the OS for gaming, and thats as much apples fault as anyones
There may very well be a licensing or red tape issue that stops them coding for older versions, apple makes it very difficlut to make software for them

There is no childish arguement here its a piece of gaming history

And yes its your PERSONAL preference, so sorry its also your PERSONAL prreference to use a unsupported OS etc etc

Its almost like turning up to a formula one race in a speedboat and asking them to change the rules to suit

Many of the audience of Starbound are most likely not people who "games seriously". That being said, I personally believe back as far as 10.5 would be more than capable of running Starbound, but there are probably discrepencies we are not aware of that make it hard to make older OS's compatable. I am hoping though to see 10.7 get support by the end of the beta, but I'm not expecting it soon.

Edit: Anyone suggesting "just bootcamp" doesn't seriously realize that not everyone is just going to spend 100 dollars for starbound?

  7. I consider myself a "serious gamer"... and you can't expect the devs to support OSX back that far, it's kinda like asking them to support Windows 3.1 because the said they support "windows"...

EDIT: You have to draw the line somewhere and it just so happens that line is 1.8

I didn't say I expected 10.5 support, I said 10.5 would be capable of running Starbound. I didn't even say I expected support for 10.7. I said I hoped for support and I wasn't expecting it to be for a while if it comes at all.

I just dont get it, people who own macs are complaining about the price of an os... does your wallet have a lock on it unless the apple logi is brandished in front of you?

and you can partition the hard drive and run linux on it, thats free

Kyren said on stream on day of launch that they were working to at least get 10.7 support in soon, and eventually 10.6. But the way Apple updates its compilers makes it very hard and can require complicated workarounds to maintain compatibility across versions. She used a little more detail, but that's the general idea.

I, personally, have no issues. My girlfriend on the other hand has a $600 macbook pro with hardware as good as my lenovo thinkpad T430 (which admittedly is not all that great, but still cost more than her mac). If you think macs are only for those with full wallets you're mistaken. Also, many casual gamers get their macs supplied by work offices oppose to buying out of pocket.

  12. That's a little bit of a low blow... Anyway, he does make a good point about linux... I had my old Macbook Pro set up to run Ubuntu as well as OSX

EDIT: Also, Work laptops are for work...

Im not a apple hater by any means, its thanks to the rabid obsession people have with apple that i have a job as a refurb engineer, but the hard fact is apple makes it difficult for ANYONE to program things for them,
They have always had issues with games going back as far as i can remember, even with multi million pound AAA titles, this is a little indie developer, give em a break lol

I'd still argue, that for the casual gamer, who likely does not have much computer experience. Dual Partitioning at all may require more effort than desired. And yes, why should the devs be the ones to put more effort and not the users? Because consumerism that's why. Anyway, again it doesn't effect me, I'm just trying to shed some light on why an issue exists.

  15. Have you ever used bootcamp, Its dual-booting for dummies... And ubuntu is stupidly user-friendly (for linux anyway)

  16. Incendiary

    Incendiary Ketchup Robot

Yes, I have used both. Again, it's not my issue. I am just saying, I know people who couldn't be bothered to dual-boot for other titles in the past. Even provided a free copy of windows available.

What your saying is the only thing i have a problem with on this forum, a beta test requires the user to put as much effort in as possible to make things work, ive beta tested numerous games and i just make the experience easier on myself and the devs by running the most up to date os i can and the hardware too
Casual gamers if im honest belong on the ipad and other portable platforms, not on a PC beta with technical issues

If people want the support for the OS they want file a detailed bug report, and keep it off the forums,

  18. So, the OP isn't posting, can we get a mod to just close this topic?

No one said anything about getting support for Starbound beta on a particular OS. The OP seemed to be wondering if 10.7 would get support at all. And my initial reply was again that I did not expect support for 10.7 *any time soon*. The only thing I've been trying to shed light on are the posts "Lol, why would you want support for 10.7? Just work-around." But the issue has been resolved, apparently, so I agree lets let it die.

Nothing has gotten heatd or rude, and theres no name calling, so let the thread die on its own rather then bothering mods lol
