The best let's play videos have little screaming, no face cam, and simple commentary. Next to that is silent no-cam let's plays.

Go for it and play like you would normally. If you do key up to talk, just leave it as simple commentary and normal chatter, not "ALRIGHT LET'S DO THIS BROS, WE'RE GONNA PLAY STARBOUND BROS, YEAH BROS!" Don't be a loser like that. Ranting is far better than talking for the sake of talking.

 

yeah that's true. people don't watch the angry video game nerd for his theme song.. his ranting makes me laugh my ass off.... hey thanks you just gave me a idea.

 

Surprisingly there's a certain brand of let's play that I really enjoyed that I haven't seen from anyone else. Ever hear of MrPodobo on YouTube? His Super Mario Bros Special play through had no speech, just text commentary in the video and gameplay. Go check that out and see if you want to do similar.

I wish folk did more of that in playing through speech heavy games.

 

I hear a lot of people say similar stuff, but the fact is that the most popular stuff is otherwise. People like to say they like the more mature, quieter stuff, but in the end, that's not what "sells."

 

yeah my silent let's plays aren't having any views...maybe I should start talking... maybe a little ranting too.
let's play sonic 06? maybe? I did find more glitches than what was posted on youtube. maybe sonic 14...

 

Well that might be completely different. All new channels get little to no views, sometimes for a very long time.

I'd love to find Let's Plays that are no ranting, no showing off, no hatetalk against women, homosexuality or race and no over the top excitement.
I actually believe that the medium "videogame" has sufficiently matured to warrant a deeper look at things. I mean, we have games like Braid, This War of Mine, Portal, and whatnot, which are intelligent and reflect on themes that could be reflected on in books or movies, too. I think games in general deserve an intellectual attention, a sociological or philosophical view. I want smart people to have Let's Plays... I'm sure there are a lot of things to be said about a game like This War of Mine, or Braid, or Portal. Homo homini lupus est, anyone?

 

very interesting idea. those game's are pretty tricky and there's a lot more game's like that, for example I.Q.: Intelligent Qube and silent hill, silent hill? yea it has psychological effect on you, it make's you feel dirty and want to stop playing at the same time but you don't want to.

Otherwise, no.

 

There is a volume control button, so any existing let's play can be made silent. As I am fond of doing when watching these videos.

Of course a silent (no commentary) video backed with some light classical pieces providing an uplifting mood to the watcher, would be nice.

 

The problem with that, without video editing, is that you cannot type and move at the same time, and it would result in weird pauses in the video as text is typed.

but if you lower the volume down you don't get to hear the music. yeah that's good too. a lot of people do that in minecraft.

 

I support you if you want to do silent let'splays still. I'm trying to get into that myself using text to convey thoughts or points, but not trying to be funny. I'm tired of not being able to find any gaming footage without some clown trying to be funny in his internet persona. I find it desperate and fake. A good quality silent LP channel is a welcome change in my opinion. I just don't like that everyone who makes a LP channel thinks the ONLY outlet is comedy and that the only way to make the video is with a comedic theme. Not everything has to be funny... or has to try to be anyway.

Also, some advice. Myself and some others I've heard state this thought over the years: don't start videos with loud audio or flashy graphics. Build up to any audio if you have any in your intro. Being bombarded by audio and graphics, having our senses overloaded in under 5 seconds on a video is the fastest way to get me to say 'nope' and close the video. Like here -



Guy starts all his videos at 0:00 with loud audio and flashy graphics and every time I watch one of his videos it makes me cringe.

 

sure you're right. I mean who actually want's someone trying to act funny on a silent hill let's play? and thanks for the advice buddy. it's going to help a lot.

 

as someone who does let's play's, do what YOU want, if you take enjoyment of what your doing people will watch.

 

I only watch silent lets plays or informative videos. Can't stand most internet personalities.
