I've never been good with being witty or funny on the spot and being able to commentate over a game easily so if I do a 'let's play' at all it will be a silent one with just the game footage/sounds. Does this sound interesting to anyone?

It would be high quality (1080p), fast-paced gameplay (I feel like I already have a great grasp of Starbound mechanics even without playing it yet), and no boring segments (tedious stuff like farming ore/wood and stuff sped up).

Would you watch an LP like this? Anything you'd add to improve it?
I'd love to LP but want to test the waters with a project like this first! :)

This sounds 1000000x better than the idiots screaming about video games. 10/10 would watch.

Me neither, if anyone out in the world is anything like me... and i guess most are... They're also sitting and screaming at the screen, even while watching lets play... going "OMG, come on.. you miss that thing, you do it like that! omg!"

Ontopic however.. i personally think it sounds a bit dull, a big reason i watch them, is to hear the commentary... I don't really watch them, cause i like to see other people play... i watch them for entertainment, and in some cases Reviews, for games i'm considering buying.

When I read his post, I imagined two people playing Starbound, voice chatting and screaming "VIDEO GAMES!! VIDEO GAMES!! AKSJAJOADLSAJKDALJSDLA" at each other at the top of their lungs

Could be an interesting watch. Might be cool if you played multiplayer and added some RP elements.

I saw it. I just assume it's for advertising channels or videos.

I'm not advertising or anything I just want to test the waters to see if something like this is even worth doing.

I like the idea a lot, but the content will really have to be really strong and make people want to watch the video. I get the feeling a lot of people listen to LPs for games like these while playing the game. So you can see a potential problem.

Yeah that section is a graveyard.
edit: Well I post my videos there. So I try to make it less graveyard like.

Then make it, y'know, not a graveyard? There's been nothing happening with it because, lo and behold, the game isn't out yet.

It's for everything video-related. Should be fine.

And yes, it's worth doing, because not everyone wants to listen to a sweaty, overweight neckbeard pant into his microphone attempting to be funny.

    Personally? No, I can't stand silent LP's
I also dislike overly loud ones where people just make stupid sounds and cannot stand ones where people try talking but just mumble their current task and read text.

When it comes to MP games I like to see friends having fun, a couple of people having a laugh and mucking around.
For single player LP's I like ones where the player actually engages the audience by speaking about the game (Not just about the game itself, but news, dates, opinions on announcements, that kind of thing)

The thing that draws many people to LP's is the players themselves and it can be hard to relate to a person if they don't ever speak

Yeah I plan to come on strong and progress at a brisk pace. One of the biggest problems I find with a lot of LP'ers is that they spend a lot of time in the beginning of the game LEARNING the game. I've sped through some of the ones posted already and a lot of them take like 30m or so to get as far as making a small shack with a workbench, furnace, and bed. With what I know about Starbound already I feel confident in saying this is something I could accomplish in less than 10m.

I wouldn't mind a silent let's play, however I do prefer let's plays where there is talking and or multiple people. My only requirement for a let's play is that the players take the game seriously, but have fun at the same time.

Yes, by the love of all that is holy, yes. I really despise people talking over the gameplay; I look for gameplay videos to see what the game is like not to listen to someone talk.

Right now, I wouldn't be interested. Beta is being released tomorrow, and I would rather play it myself.

Later on however, yes - If you do it right, even a silent LP can be interesting. For example: I listen to/watch speedruns while I draw from time to time, even if they have no commentary. Speedruns require a ton of practice, skill, and often involve many cool little tricks, which is why I love them. If you make a goal for your LP or just do interesting things all of the time - Perhaps you go through extremely hard dungeons, or defeat bosses with very minimal gear, or have a time lapse of you building something seriously awesome - then I'd definitely watch it from time to time. You could even set up a single goal for a single video (like killing a boss), then speed up the parts preparing to meet that goal (getting equipment, building an arena to fight the boss in, etc.) Players could learn from how you play, even if you don't explain how you're doing things.

The main advantage a silent LPer has over a commentating one is they aren't distracted. A lotta LPers mention the Let's Play curse - since they're thinking about what to say, their gameplay suffers. They'll die a lot, make mistakes where they shouldn't, miss some things, etc. Since you won't be thinking about what to say, you'll be able to play the game much more skillfully than a live-commentator normally would.

Also, you use the forums. I haven't seen any popular LPers use them. You can get the community's attention by posting your videos here.

I prefer watching silent Let's Plays over commentated personally. However I only watch those of games I either do not have the console for or cannot run on my hardware. As I'll be to busy playing Starbound myself, I will not be watching any Let's Plays though I wish you luck with yours.

Smosh, Pewdiepie, Jesse Cox, any number of other ones. Start of video: BEEP BOOP BEEP. ZAPZAP ZAP!

Anyway, yes OP, I would love that. The only typical LP I can partially enjoy is a Yogg's cast once in a while but they usually just laugh at each other constantly. That one they did for the pre-SB launch was alright. Go look at the beta video biscuit did. He disabled comments because so many people were posting their negative opinions about Jesse. I was looking at those comments and they weren't insults, they were criticisms but people don't like hearing ugly truths. PLEASE do silent LP's and I will sub day one.

Then you wouldn't like mine because i can't even ever speak bwahah...Then again i stick to twitch But i wouldn't mind a slient LP gives me something to just stare at as i slowly drift into sleep without someone screaming "OH GOD" then they get scared then again. I wouldn't know how that feels

I'd like a lp that is quieter.
I know that there are some good letsplayer, who explain what they are doing or tell some deeper information about the game.
Screaming without cease on the otherhand is only anoying.
Maybe you can find a balance between pure silence and and some interesting info.

If it comes to mp, some comunication between you and your mate(s) would make sense,
unless you'll only show some big fights.

Do you have some ideas in particular about what you want to show?
