Any chance we might get a stable update?

This is a question to the devs as much as the community. Devs because they might think about it. Community because they might know something. Anyhow, while as far as I know and understand the devs have decided to hold back updates until they have a significant amount done, is there any chance we could get a stable update with just a few things? I absolutely understand that people get and are needlessly butt hurt over how the devs have handled or are handling updates. Thus I understand why they have decided to hold things until they are ready, to a degree. But, it would be nice to maybe have just enough in the stable branch to be able to start a new character and fix your ship, I don't mind if it is all same old starbound after that. I would just love to get a little stable taste of what chucklefish has in store. Nightlies have been completely broken for me for the last month and so I have yet to try anything that has been added since then. So, again, to the devs; Please maybe throw us a tiny bit of new content for stable, just to tide us over? To the community do you think there is any chance they might? Or have the haters just ruined it that badly for the rest of us? Either case, still excited for what is coming down the pipe with Starbound!

This upcoming update has been going on for a while (since June, earlier then that, June is just in reference for the first nightly build) in terms of having started, and it's going to be...huge. I think the devs said not to ask about specific release dates. They'll come when they come.

Let's say they do release a smaller update, to tide us over until they finish everything else. But then won't people begin complaining how they spent so much time between updates and then release so little?

Honestly, I personally wouldn't mind too much. I have been holding off on playing until the new update, personally, because I see so much they want to add in and I am ecstatic for it. With the next update I am certainly going to play a lot more.
But they should take their time to make sure it is good, as well :)

Well, sure, but people are complaining anyway, I won't be upset whatever they do. It would just be nice. I have no expectations. But, either case I will do my best to wait it out. Lol, I am so desperate now that I would even take a "We think we are X% done be don't count on anything anytime soon, still." I don't play or enjoy to many video games and this is one I have been really excited for for awhile. I have full confidence chucklefish will get it done, the waiting just sucks.

It would be nice if they did, it might kick this community back into some good discussions, instead of the pointless ones that consist mostly of complaints that have been prevalent recently

    I doubt they will though

Yeah, I imagine it must be frustrating for the devs to know that no matter what they do people still find something to be upset about. I mean, it isn't like chucklefish is non-communicative or appreciative of the community. People just get so pointlessly entitled that it ruins it for those of us who want a favor from the devs just because it would be nice. I am sure if it wasn't for whiners they would probably have never changed their update schedule much at all in the first place....

They tried this and people chewed them out over it until they decided to release larger updates. They can't win. It's like Blizzard. No matter what they do, it's bad for them. The modern gamer is a self-entitled ape.

The fact is the modern gamer has more pull because of social media and devs paying attention to forums especially in indy games. The fact is people have always been petty vocal and over dramatic over any product purchase be it a product from a store in the 80's or a video game downloaded now days. Their are and will always be people who feel like they have been disrespected no matter how nice or how great the pr. So it's more of a human problem then a modern gamer deal.

in general, especially when someone doesn't actively think about both sides ahead of time.

They really just need to stick to one thing and not keep going back and forth, which they finally seem to be doing.

  14. it really comes down to resources and opportunity cost. It takes a decent amount of effort to sort out what they should and shouldn't move, what had dependencies on what else, what will cause issues with the current file structure, etc. The cost in wasted resource is far greater than the benefit of appeasing a small portion of the player base. Also if people see a push and it's not everything they've been advertising, people will lose their friggin minds.

I don't know. The stables are looking decent. Pretty clean too for a stable. We are talking about animal stables, yes?

Truly like others have said I would not expect it, the goal seems to be to make a big game changer that will make people forget the gap (like seems to have happened with Terraria, which might be where they got the idea to try a reputation saving super update).

Some of us could handle a smaller update but they based the point of no return not putting out anything in May, now people will be made if they get stripped down nightlies for an update since "it was X months and all they did was changed monsters, tile rendering, and added a useless AI and pointless outpost". People have started to discount the past updates, weather was called "literally 5 minutes of lua" and it got so bad all of march and april's updates no longer count and some people even argue december, january and february barely do. If they released a small update, even literally saying "we removed a lot of stuff, this is a tiny sampler" people have decided that CF are lying crooks and thus why believe there is more being worked on, wny not just assume this sampler is it, this is the 3 months of work, they are just lazy but refuse to admit it, why not assume even it this sampler is just a sample that it was not released in order for the devs to counter people asking for an update, that is to give them another 3 months to just goof off. I would love for them to push out something but it has gotten to the point with dissidents that anything short of showing some real progress, something that makes the game a whole new thing the developers will forever be considered a bunch of greedy little liars trying to steal money from Terraria. *Huff* I really don't like the divide seems to have gotten that bad but it really seems to have.

@MMbsman777 PM me if you need help running nightlies again. (unless you mean progression broke)

when was the last stable and unstable (not nightly) updates anyways?
    feels like a forever ago

April 26th (stable) and April 24th (unstable) If i do recall.

Though depending on who you ask, you might be told nothing past the last name update on Feb 18th counts. Some even don't count any updates and set it at Dec 4th.

    Check starbounder.org for more info.
