Greetings, Starbound community! I'm fjora. My boyfriend just showed me this game, and I had to try the monster MONSTER contest. :D

This is the original drawing of Baniel, the stubborn, rowdy, antlered lightning leopard thing. The idea was to illustrate a strong, mixed species creature with super natural powers. I think that part is obvious. When drawing him, I imagined him to be very blunt and straightforward, with a love-to-play-rough personality. To be honest, I was thinking of my Uncle John when thinking up his personality traits. He also bares a striking resemblance, physically: Muscular yet fluffy.

With a normal disposition of carefree and happy, Baniel can shift from nice to gnarly in a snap, if he feels his pride is threatened.

Physically, Baniel is made to resemble 3 different species. Starting at the top and working down, Baniel sports a pair of medium sized antlers, which resemble that of a white-tailed deer, that are used as a conductor for the electric current that he uses as a defense. The antlers offer a visual appeal for him, as well as a functioning mode of current delivery AND a damn sharp shiv if need be. I wanted to make his head, face, and neck to resemble a grizzly bear, where as, I made his body to stand more poised, with the pattern, body, and tail like that of a leopard. His tail and mane become bushy and his fur fills with static while he's using his electric current. So, when he needs it most, he can appear to become larger, as if to intimidate his opponents.

I drew his eyes with no pupil on purpose. His eyes are supposed to be pure white with a ghost like pale glow. His paws were mean't to be bear-like. With the added ability of being able to grasp things.

For his colors I imagined a creamy white coat, with his spots being two tone brown, with dark around the edges of the spots, and a lighter shade of brown in the middle. I'll add color soon.

In the second picture, I scaled Baniel down a little bit. Shortened his legs and made his mane a bit more bushy.

These two pieces were drawn while I was at work, on the back of some scratch paper I had in my folder (You can tell from the text on the other side, showing through the paper xD ). Not much to do at a call center, so it's the opportune time to create some creatures!

I understand that this is a MONSTER creating contest. I guess I'm not particularly skilled at creating 'monsters' in the traditional sense of the word. I've seen many good creations so far, though!

I'm excited for this game! I love space travel and cool creatures. This game is right up my alley.

@DevilBro Thank you, very much! I appreciate the kind words. I suppose Baniel would be grizzly bear sized. So, quite large compared to a person.

nice design indeed;) slap some color on it?

only critique i can think of is it's anatomy, it resembles a cat more than a bear, kinda like a lion or tiger. Bears doesnt have that streamlined shape on their bodies, they are bulkier and look less agile. other than that the design itself is realy good, sorry for beeing picky but thats how i am:p

there was a ridiculously sweet sprite incoming but then the (in-browser) art program she was using reset. >:T

I set her up with a better program though, so fingers crossed.
