Race Anthropomorphic Fox race

There's enough premade furry fanart that would fit this on the internet than there is space in the entire universe. and what description would you need other than, "not much is known about this race, although clearly human in appearance, they feel the need to dress up and role play as animals for various unknown and possibly questionable reasons."

Anyways, well, just art won't be enough, you may need to make them more unique than just foxes in their appearance to look original... also, I suggest working a lot on lore and on 2D spirtes... oh wait, already said that

 

Okay, you may be good, but just saying "Foxes shaped like humans" is not gonna cut it AT ALL. You're getting downvoted because instead of lore and a name and art, tech, religion, ect. you just put down something that you could've doodled on a napkin and saved to expand. Once you expand and rename (The Canidians has a good ring to it...) you will soar!

Foxes are my #1 favorite animal, so I'd usually be pretty biased on this subject and give it a hell yes. But it's not reallllllly a good race suggestion even in its premise.
To be frank, foxes don't have enough racial traits by themselves to fit into starbound. This is why avians borrow traits from multiple species of bird. Some of them look like jays, some look like owls, etc. If a general fox race were added to the game it would be the least creative of the races. I'd suggest at least giving it a broader range of canid or mammalian species.

Moreover, I don't want another anthro race in the main game. But I do want it in my game. That's why I'm excited to hear how easily moddable Starbound & Starbound servers will be.

 

I do think with some good lore and some examples of how they would look this would get more support. Even if it doesn't make it into the main game it would likely prove interesting enough for modders to consider implementing.

I would still be rather worried on how many sprites you may need to make for all animations of a single race, but whatever, don't think that would be that hard...

 

It's as if someone from each fandom wants their own little piece of crap put into the game. Something like this added into the base game would only tear the community apart. If you really feel like you need it, resort to mods.

It happens. Though character ones like this seem to more be the OP having an original character they want to play that requires a new race (Specific anthro, ponies, etc.). Just the athropromoic races in the game right now are good enough for me. Sure it would be neat to play my fursona (which would require a rodent based species) but I don't need it to enjoy the game. I would say this one is not so much wanting to make the game more furry rather as the OP stated wanting races that they and their friends can use. Not saying that makes this any better just that I think this (and some of the pony post, not all) are less about fandom service and more "I have a character and he is a (bear/earth pony/klingon/wookie) so it would be nice it those were added to the game so I could play him" kind of things. Lastly yes, unless the race is something truly awe worthy and made you go "i can not live if this is not in the main game" then these kind of suggestions are more or less suggestions for future mods.

I think just the amount of "furry" races in it now will warrant a "Furries ruin everything" at release.

And referring to some of the previous comments if a canine race wasn't implemented into the game I could happy stick with the avians who are already a cool race. And mod wise I wouldn't want a mod created race as the lore they came up with wouldn't be official and by the creators or maybe they couldn't say anything for an object at all? And for all your consideration Yes I'm a furry. Yes my fursona is a fox but its not something I Show off about or run in people's faces its just the alternate me. Whenever I play video games if you have a choice of races Most of the time I have a human and anthropomorphic character so I can play and progress as either one I feel like playing as at the time. I will do this with starbound as it will be fun to see the different things avians and humans can craft and to see their different reactions to lore based items. My human character would be based on me personally and my anthro would have my fursona name.

 

Well, I guess we all figured you're a furry and your fursona is a fox by just looking at your avatar.

 

If you think about it, it's much more credible for the devs to pick up a well done mod than a suggestion. Of course, it would be a process. Tooltips would likely not be one of the first features added into a race mod, and it would borrow tooltips from humans in the meantime. As someone with plans to work on this sort of mod, that's probably what we'll be doing. But hopefully with the help of a community that uses the mod, it'll develop through feedback and tweaking.

 

pls no, I'm sure that after release someone will make every furry race imaginable, wait till then.
