WIP Anthro characters

Something isn't always better than nothing. For someone like me it might as well not exist because I'm not interested in having only part of the characters transformed and the fact that it's really well done makes it suck even more that it's incomplete. Something being better than nothing is only the case when the something in question still serves the desired purpose, if it doesn't then it's just something that might have been good but didn't quite make it. It would be like if Stardew Valley had come out but was buggy and kept crashing after 10 minutes. Sure you still got something but that doesn't mean much since you still can't really play it and at the end of the day it would probably have been better to not get it than to get an incomplete and unfinished version of it.

 

Well, at least it's there for those of us that like it mixed, right? It's still better than not existing at all when you think about other people in the world who are happy to have it. (sorry this sounds a little mean, I don't intend it that way)

 

That's a terrible analogy. Just because you don't get a complete set of something doesn't make it worthless.

 

You need to be a bit more thankful kid, unless you can do it yourself, better and absolutely complete. Go on, try learning a programming language, pixel art, creating parallaxes... cant be bothered? dont have time? was it frustrating? all this and more happens to people that make things like this, they put their time and effort for free, so others can enjoy what they do. If you dont like it then dont use it, but the least you could do is show a little gratitude.

 

Not for everyone but for many it does.

Thankful for what? Sure I can't do it myself but at the same time I'm not trying to so that point is completely irrelevant. But when someone starts a product and leaves it incomplete there is no requirement to be thankful for what is done. Yes the work that was done was good but incomplete is incomplete and if you think people should all just be happy rays of sunshine about something not being finished then you are probably the one who really needs to grow up and face reality because that isn't how things work. The creator of this mod did good work but abandoned it and fully deserves to be held accountable for abandoning it. Not to have that fault brushed aside because we should all be happy to get anything even if that is an unfinished product.

It doesn't sound mean. It's great for those that are able to enjoy it and it's nice that it exists for that reason but at the same time there are many who can't and for people in that category something simply isn't better than nothing.

 

Heck I wouldn't even go so far as to say it was abandoned. There could be any number of reasons why there hasn't been an update in two months. Maybe the mod creator has school or job obligations taking up time. I'm glad what is here is here, don't get me wrong, the art is fantastic, but personally I won't use it until it is either finished, or there's another mod that can combine with this one that gets all the characters changed and the art doesn't clash too much. I just mainly commented that I only found out about this mod yesterday when there hadn't been an update in 2 months. I'm going to keep my eye on this and another mod and see which one finishes first for me to use. i don't hate the author, as I have no reason as to why progress has stopped. I can speculate reasons, but until we have word from the creator, that's all any of it is, speculation.

This is a fan creation done for fun and not a promised product. The way you make it sound you may as well hold every artist who never finished a fan art accountable for failing to treat their hobby as a job. People are grateful for fan work not because they're mindless balls of sunshine but out of appreciation for the work itself. Finished or not these are some awesome portraits and that alone is worth praise. I hope that at some point the mod will be finished but even if it isn't I still enjoy admiring the work done.

 

Perhaps you both are looking at this wrong... No one has heard from the creator, I've messaged him, and others have messaged him. I'm more concerned for his health/safety/current status.

 

For anyone wondering, the following character edits are no longer compatible with the 1.1 update;
Harvey
Shane
Jas
Gil
Wizard
Morris
Clint
Abigail (One scene only for Emily)

Most of them are a case of mismatched portraits and sprites, ie Harvey will have a human sprite but his portrait is still his anthro self. Shane also still appears as a lizard in Jojamart, despite appearing human everywhere else.
Truly a shame the author has disappeared, I would've loved marrying anthro Shane. I hope they are well, wherever they are.

 

Granted i feel a lil impateint to see an update myuch more so for 1.1. and i understand that the mod author is MIA, has anyone looked into a Unofficial "temp " patch so to say to get it to work till the author is back from whatever has kept them offline?

 

for convenience sake, i went in and removed all modified sprites and portraits of all the characters terrimina has mentioned above in this 'temporary patch'. other modified sprites from other assets of the game, like the anthro people from the tv shows have also been removed, as those have been updated for the 1.1 patch as well.

this patch includes maru's updated nurse portraits, which replaces the filler sad expression with the existing anthro'd sad face. i've also left in abigail's dragon sprites, as if i recall, several characters in different clothing (in a separate sprite sheet) appear in one of emily's heart scenes. if that bothers you, then tough luck.


if i have the time i could maybe help contribute to the author by updating the 1.1 sprites, but given that i have college and other work to do, it'll be awhile before i get around doing them.

Because imagining there can be both anthros and humans in the same world is just completely impossible, and not replacing every character is obviously the same as the game not working / constantly crashing. Smh

 

I had a fair amount of free time today and wanted to start playing 1.1 as soon as possible, so I tried adapting Shane's anthro look to the new sprites/portrait expressions. The results can be downloaded below.

I couldn't find a sprite that matched the one featured in the story event from this post (unless it's in the main sheet and I'm just being dense), but otherwise, everything should work fine. If doing this is in bad taste, let me know and I'll take this down.

 

Someone should just contact the mod creator and or just have it up for grabs such a waste of development even though there is the whole "stealing" drama that could happen.

Emily needs some love.

 

We've been trying to contact the creator for a while, we don't know where they've gone.

 

For what it's worth, I'd be surprised if someone took issue with releasing a separate "leftovers" pack of sprites and artwork to cover the few characters this mod completely hasn't touched.

(I tripped and ended up fixing Morris, Gil, and the Jojamart cashier, just by copying/pasting Gaveliere's original sprites into the new towninterior.xnb.)

(EDIT: Just noticed the Clothing Therapy sequence for the first time! This is next on my list of priorities.)

 

I still hope the original creator may someday finish this glorious mod up, but I'm glad there are some folks willing to put some time into making this compatible with the new update.

 

Updated: the Clothing Therapy sequence (sprites for Shane, Lewis, Abigail, and Clint), Clint's portrait set, and Jas and Wizard's spritesheets (both of which required minimal editing). With NyanTarts's 1.1 temp fix, this should only leave Harvey, the TV hosts, and whoever else is lurking in the environmental tilesheets.

I've also made mod installation a two-step process, just in case anyone wants bare-minimum fixes with neither of the characters I've assembled custom portraits for so far.

EDIT: And Harvey should be working now.
