1 - PRE - I'm still unsure of how the crafting system works and some of the stuff I post here will depend on how it will be. - I've tried to search for other threads talking about this, and didn't find any recently. - Please, help us here adding more stuff, art and critics. - Please, tell me if I can improve something in this thread and I'll edit this. - On the last item, I may make a tab. - Yes, it's a bit long. Thanks for reading. - English is not my native language, so forgive me for any mistakes. - I've highlighted some parts in green. - Feel free to like this post. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 2 - THE BASICS - So, we have confirmed pets and tamable creatures. In here, I'm not proposing any of those, or even similar. - What I pretend, is to have a low power, ammunition-like type of item. - It's aesthetical concept is of a small container with small creatures or live beings that can be thrown out of that container into a small-medium range location in the terrain, and after that, those small creatures will attack any nearby beings, either mobs, or players. Still didn't get it? Imagine you have a jar with snakes and you pick the snakes and trow them on the ground to scare and attack your enemies. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 3 - CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FEATURE - Weapon. It's a weapon, something similar to a bow. Doesn't need energy - Low power. Is not to be used as a main weapon. - Support item in practical terms. It will help the player to win battles or come out of uneasy situations. - Ammunition-like item. Depletes after X number of uses. I suggest having only 10 uses per item. - Not cheap, not very expensive. It's not an item you'll find in your home planet or in the first few hours of gameplay. Will require some exploration and a bit of work. - Insect-like appearance. These creatures will be small and have an 'insectish' behavior and appearance. - Craftable. - Timer. These creatures will die after a certain time has passed, independently of HP or any other stats. - Not player friendly. Will target the nearest live entity around (mobs or players). Doesn't distinguish friendly or allied entities from enemy ones. - Short range. You cannot trow this creatures very far away. I suggest no more than 8 blocks. - Reusable. After all the creatures have been tossed away, you will get the empty container back. - Race related. Every race has it's own container and creatures. Other races, however, can craft it too with the proper items (for the container) and eggs. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 4 - THE IDEA 4.1 - BASICS - As said before, this idea is basically a container with a few creatures inside that can be thrown on the ground to attack beings nearby. - I'll make a separate items for each race specific item. 4.2 - THE CONTAINER - Each race will have it's own related container and creature species. - Any race can craft other races' containers. - Each container can only hold a specific type of creature species. - The container will be held in one hand. - I suggest the "ammunition" number of 10 units per container/item. 4.3 - THE CREATURES - They must some how try to resemble the race of "origin". - Those creatures will appear in the form of creature eggs that can be crafted along with the container to form the final item. - The eggs can be found in each race's dungeon. - The creatures are in a "baby form" (so they can fit the container). This explains why they die after a certain time. - About 1 block size. 4.4 - THE NAME - This item will be named "[CONTAINER] with [CREATURES]". Example: Box with spiders. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 5 - CRAFTING - It has been confirmed in the last week updates, that there will be reversed printing. In other words, you can pick an object, scan it, get a blueprint of it, and then rebuilding it with the right materials. Because of this, crafting the containers shouldn't be a trouble to be debated here. - Here are options for the creatures: 5.1 - ALTERNATIVE 1: HATCHERY TO CRAFT THE ITEM - Requires a special items called "Hatchery" where you'll add the container + creature eggs and after a while will produce the item. - Since there are other features regarding creatures (tamable ones and pets), this could be used for it to. - Some MS-Paint art. 5.2 - ALTERNATIVE 2: HAND-CRAFTED - Doesn't require any special item. All you need is the specific container + creature eggs and after a while you will produce the items. 5.3 - ALTERNATIVE 3: HATCHERY TO MAKE THE EGGS HATCH - You will use the hatchery to make the eggs hatch. You will insert the eggs in the hatchery and it will slowly begin to produce the baby creatures. - Then, you will be able to craft the item using your hands if you hold the baby creatures and the container in your inventory. - Like this, you can keep your hatchery to constantly produce more eggs in the future, but as long as it takes a while (or this may start to be used as a main weapon due to the abundance of creatures). - This is the one I live most. 5.4 - PETS, TAMED ANIMALS AND DIFFERENT EVOLUTION STATES - It has been confirmed tamed creatures pass on several evolution forms. If one of these forms is a "baby" one, it can be used in this feature too. - Please discuss -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 6 - RACE SPECIFICATIONS - I'm thinking of adding only one, but if anything, not more than two creature species per race. - I may make some tab on this. 6.1 - HUMANS 6.1.1 - CONTAINER A glass jar. Simple as that. 6.1.2 - CREATURE - "SCORPION" - A small scorpion. - Colour: brown with some green parts on its back. - Jumps: no. - Damage: low. - Causes slow down: no. - Causes poisoning: yes, but very low. - Knockback: very low. - Swim: no. - Speed: average. - life-span: 7 seconds. 6.2 - AVIAN 6.2.1 - CONTAINER A straw basket. 6.2.2 - CREATURE - "FLEA" - a jumpy little yellow bug - Colour: yellow - Jumps: yes, very high. - Damage: very low. - Causes slow down: no. - Causes poisoning: no. - Knockback: very low. - Swim: yes, but very slow. - Speed: fast. - life-span: 6 seconds. 6.3 - APEX 6.3.1 - CONTAINER A metal squarish box. 6.3.2 - CREATURE - "BEETLE" - a small beetle with a carapace. - Colour: brown and red. Or brown and blue. - Jumps: no. - Damage: low. - Causes slow down: no. - Causes poisoning: no. - Knockback: average. - Swim: no. - Speed: slow. - life-span: 7 seconds. 6.4 - GLITCH 6.4.1 - CONTAINER A wooden and golden box. 6.4.2 - CREATURE - "MECHANICAL SPIDER" - A mechanical spider. - Colour: silver. - Jumps: yes, but not very high. It will jump to get across blocks. - Damage: low. - Causes slow down: no. - Causes poisoning: no. - Knockback: low. - Swim: no, but it can walk underwater. - Speed: fast. - life-span: 7 seconds. 6.5 - HYLOTL 6.5.1 - CONTAINER Some sort of fish bowl. 6.5.2 - CREATURE - "BLOB" - A colourful blob of goo. - Colour: varies. It's random between live colours. - Jumps: yes, but not very high. - Damage: very, very low. - Causes slow down: yes, average. - Causes poisoning: no. - Knockback: low. - Swim: yes, at average speed. - Speed: slow. - life-span: 7 seconds. 6.6 - FLORAN 6.6.1 - CONTAINER A potted flower that opens its petals to toss the creature out. 6.6.2 - CREATURE - "EVIL VINES" - A small plant that doesn't move very fast but can be very annoying if you come in contact with it. It consists of a green core with a small vines spreading in every direction. - Colour: green. - Jumps: no. - Damage: very low. - Causes slow down: yes, a lot. - Causes poisoning: yes; very, very low. - Knockback: none. - Swim: no. - Speed: very, very slow. - life-span: 7 seconds. 6.7 - NOVAKIDS 6.7.1 - CONTAINER Plasma buble. A shiny buble that emits a very weak cyan light. 6.7.2 - CREATURE - "ENERGY ENTITY" - A small ball of energy that can deplete one's evergy very fast. - Colour: Cyan. It's a small lightning source. - Jumps: yes, at average height. - Damage: none (on contact). Low damage when exploding. - Causes slow down: yes, average. - Causes poisoning: no. - Knockback: very, very low. - Swim: yes. - Speed: average. - Life-span: 3 seconds. - Other: drains energy very fastly, on contact. After the life-span has ended or if it is killed, explodes cause low damage and with a very, very low range.
So, basically you can craft an item that summons a swarm of small animals for a limited amount of time, that sounds pretty cool.

Reminds me of the ammo system in Oddworld: Stranger's wrath. Your idea however I reckon is a better suggestion than actually using pets/creatures as "live ammo". RSCPA jimmies would be rustled.
Omg, I am glad this isn't what I thought it was. The first time I read "using animals as weapons" I was thinking of the stretching of a monsters skinned hide over a gun or something, which I am pretty glad it isn't (that would be horrifying @.@). I am really liking the idea and when I read through it I was kind of thinking of effects certain types of monsters could have. Say there were fleas in that container it may have a specific effect while if there were snakes in there it would be another effect, maybe poisoning or something. The only thing I am wondering is how big the containers would be and how many objects it would be able to hold depending on the mass of the creature or even where and how you can catch these creatures (if that is how you obtained the ammo). So yeah, you have a like from me!
Since there were some news regarding animal/tamed beasts evolution and crafting, I'm kinda bumping this thread. I've edited the first post too. (Kind of) sorry for doing it.
Awesome idea... But you know your a fdan of the Creatures when you see this and automatically think: Kootra, Slyfox, Dan, Ze, Seamus, Spoon, Nova... And not the actual idea
