Another playable race revealed since DAY ONE, but somehow unnoticed? CONSPIRACY!?

for you eyes and pleasure, here is my imagination unleashed !
introducing the Rhoans !
the Rhoans from planet Wazza are an inteligent race named after theire goddess Rho. Rhoans are tall, pink haired, dark skinned humanoids with glowing blue eyes. It is said that the goddess Rho wore a purple jumpsuit at all time and as such, the color is considered holy for the Rhoans and that is reflected in theire clothing and other designs. Most Rhoans also have an innate passion for arts, especially the intergalactic art of "pixelization" which consist in creating detailed picture using only fairly sized colored squares. Rhoans are also a technologically advanced race with access to starships and other advanced technologies. theire ship design reflects a lot theire culture, feature squarish shapes with purple colored hull.
Rhoan's both genders share fairly similar features as noted above, both being tall and slender in shape along with the caracteristic mentionned above along with usualy humanoid gender disctinctive feature such as increased muscle mass for the male and thin thight/wide waist for female. they both wear there hair long (relatively to human) with males usually having it shoulder lenght while females usually have theire hairs waist long, if not even longer. Some male ties theires for practical reason but most females dont. The average Rhoan is very well educated and often-time very attractive according to human criteria, which makes the Rhoans a very popular race across the galaxy. Rhoans in general also display a constant enthusiasm about almost everything, and discuss things they like with a fiery passion unseen in many humanoids. beware theire wrath tho, an angered Rhoan is a fearsome sight. Rumors want that some gifted individual might also possess psychic powers, but there nothing up to now to support this rumor.

hope you all like it. to be honest, after writing all this, im starting to like even more the idea that it could be a real playable species and if chucklefish was to follow the above, i would totally roll a Rhoan for my character

p.s.: yes, the name is a half-assed reference to lord of the ring, it came up when i chose what name to use. nothing to do with the actual race

I think I'll put it in a spoiler in the intro post! If only you would have put some majs in there, that would have been even more awesome. Nice imagination.

just dont pick it if you dont like it, some people like me dont need the customization because we already like the basic features a lot. i'd give my Rhoan long hair like death in darksiders two, and get a similar mask throught which you'd see the blue eyes flashing with some patch of skin appearing. with a ragged mercenary looking outfit it would be pretty cool

edit : most race customization will probably be limited to skin/hair/fur color and hairstyle. there's still options for Rhoan within this, could be streaks of colors along the pink air and different hue of dark colors for the skins along with multiple sort of hairstyle

 

I'm betting on Rho being a Cyborg, because Cyborgs are cool! & different enough from the other Playable Races in appearance yet easy enough to Sprite with the 'Starbound Mold'.

I bet Cyborgs in Starbound can have awesome quality stuff for simulating Humans in appearance... even today in real life, the Mythbusters have a Dummy named Buster who is using some kinda awesome synthetic skin Jamie (One of the Mythbusters) calls "Dragon Skin".

I contacted Rho in order to have a short interview with her about her reactions regarding the Rhos/Rhoans. The interview is focused mostly about the race rather than the "conspiracy" in itself. Anyway, it'd be useless to ask her question about the conspiracy since... she could be... part of it. >.> *dun dun dun*

What were your first thoughts when you first read about the “conspiracy” of the Rhos?
Rho: Really surprised that anyone thought to read that much into my picture, and at how creative the theories were!

As of today, what do you feel/think about the more serious fan discussions talking about the creation of a race based on your developer avatar?
Rho: I think they're interesting and fine to have, but at the end of the day even if I wanted to be a race, it would be really narcissistic and self serving to do so. I think maybe the devs should have cameos to varying degrees (if we wanted), but putting ourselves too prominently in our own game is a bit too selfish. The game isn't about us, it's about you!

Why is it that your developer avatar looks so different from the other ones who represent more casual clothing? Do you actually have a similar look in real life?
Rho: It was a thing I'd doodled months before while designing armors, except I just gave myself glowy eyes and purple hair. I really like Taarna from the movie Heavy Metal, so I just doodled something shamelessly taking off that. When it came time to make dev pictures, everyone was hastily making adaptations of themselves, so rather than draw a new one I just used that, if not to be a bit contrarian. My hair does looks like that in real life, except it's black. I dress pretty fabulously in person, but I'm not crazy enough to go out in a purple bodysuit. Sorry!

If a race based on your developer avatar would indeed appear in the official release of Starbound, how would you personally name that race? Or would you keep the names “Rhos” or “Rhoans” a part of the community already uses?
Rho: I've no idea. There's so many things I've seen people stick "Rho" onto that they'd probably be much better prepared to answer that.

What would you prefer to be the main traits/characteristics/background of a race based on your developer avatar?
Rho: I'm not very original. Probably something like the Daedric Princes from The Elder Scrolls. But more fabulous. Fabulous mystical beings from another dimension.

Would you actually play as the very race based on your developer avatar if such a race ever makes it to Starbound?
Rho: I think from the start I intended to put in the Rho outfit as an easter egg and use it whenever I played. So maybe?

What do you feel when you see you possibly have at least the beginning of your very own fanbase?
Rho: Really humbled - even seeing that word used in relation to me is something I don't have a concept of, so it's really surprising and humbling that people apparently think I'm interesting enough to talk about. I'm still not used to it!

What's the Starbound secret you can reveal to us without Tiy being angry at you? Does it have a link with an eventual "Rho" race?
Rho: No comment

 

wow, nice to have gotten an interview there. i went myself on the live chat earlier today to slip her a word. she was also pretty surprised she had attracted so much attention. then followed an avanlanche of bad puns with her name. ghostar even changed his name to rhostar for a moment

I don't consider myself a fan of Rho regardless of this thread, but she seems like a wonderful person. Like all of Chucklefish. It does make me somewhat glad that her dev sprite is making a way in the imagination of the community (would be hard to make a race based on the sprite of the other devs after all)!

I updated the intro post with your sprite. It's really good at my opinion! I like what you did with the eyes. o.o And added your name, too. Credits.

 

lol wow, thanks. to be honest i took the starbound character blank ghostar posted and used rho's sprite as a guideline for most feature. i discovered how hard spriting can actually be x_x

edit : in the interview, Rho mention how unlikely the "rhoans" are to be in-game. but they are quite similar to human after all, maybe they should just give customization options to the human frame for pink hair, those glowy blues eyes and particuliar "fabulous" male and female hairstyle. they stay human but those who liked the idea get theire "rhoans"

Rho now not only looks awesome as hell, but now she's also quite... fit, o.o, and... well, a godly princess of murdering if you ask my opinion. But judge for yourselves!



Isn't she way too cool to be human? Oh, and could it be that the males of Rho's POSSIBLE race are... SPACE BEARS?!

Well, after seeing that picture, I'm fairly certain I'm in love. Anyone with flowing hair, an affinity towards animals, and can kill stuff in high heels is winrar to me.

I just found today a quite interesting... perspective... of what could be the capabilities of Rhos/Rhoans! What if these glowing eyes had some link with some psychic power? Of course, since player characters won't have special race skills according to Chucklefish, it could still be possible to have race items specific to the Rhos/Rhoans that each could allow the use of one particular "psychic power" that could require the use of your energy meter, simply, like regular energy-needing items/skills confirmed this far in the game! Floating, telekinesis, lasers eyes, etc. Such an interesting idea! Wanna add that to your race topic, Phyrex? I think it has some potential!

Well, another small and almost unsignificant update, but still! It's hard to find stuff about the conspiracy.

Today we have a small drawing appearing in the Pet Lovers Catalogue (a suggestion thread by me) and made by Nirn that shows Rho and a male Rhoan comrade of hers "training" what seems to be their cat army. Bears and cats? Seems legit.

 

These theories are just weird, she kinda just looks like a human to me, maybe i'm wrong though.
