Another playable race revealed since DAY ONE, but somehow unnoticed? CONSPIRACY!?

I must agree, it does look alien-like considering it has glowing eyes.

 

Since when do tails have to be different color from the person's hair if it's hairy? lol.. But anyway. I don't think it looks like a tail anymore, but that just adds onto the point that it would be pointless to have a whole other race that just changes one little thing - in this case - glowy eyes and "eyeliner"(which I think are goggles).

I understand your point, but I believe that Starbound has unfortunately little options when coming down to making races. By that, I mean that all races will most likely have the same humanoid body with only a couple of differently colored pixels on their skins to differentiate one another. THAT, and their heads. Of course, the devs can hardly make a race that wouldn't fit in the already drawn armors, else it would mean a lot of work for the poor sprite artists who certainly already have a lot of job for the already quite complex work that represents Starbound. For exemple, the Avians. Their bodies are exactly the size of the humans of Starbound. All races will likely have the same restriction. Apart from the heads, it'll be quite hard for the devs to make a race completely different from another one when wearing armors.

And that's what I wanted to bring with this topic: Rho's skin color doesn't seem much human (even black people can't have a skin THAT literaly black) and she doesn't look to have a much human head either. From what I see of her face, I see a brown mask hiding most of her face and showing only her blue shining eyes and some other black skin around these eyes. Of course, at that point, you are much right to pinpoint that you can actually see something completely from me in that sprite. Just wanted to discuss conspiracy and stuff and your opinion is much welcomed of course.

But I dunno about the goggles you keep seeing though. I'm almost sure it's only her normal eyes. o.o

 

Anybody notice the black arms and legs yet? Boots? Gloves? I think not! I think they're metal. It could be a playable race, robots or cyborgs. After all, she does have a glowing eye.

Perhaps she is human, just a new culture.

 

I remember saying something like this in the Races thread, I ended up getting similar responses.
We have no way of knowing whether or not that will be an actual race or not, we have little idea what character customization is like, so we have no idea if you can give a human blue eyes, and peach colored hair.

 

Maybe just a black Human being with long hair? Whats so different to make it a "race"?

As an actual friend of Rho, i thought it was common knowledge that Rho was not human to begin with... at least, not completely human.

I.. I guess it could mean that? Personally I don't think that the eye means anything.. could be goggles or something...

 

To me it looks like a hawt dark skinned chick in a tight suit wearing spectacles of some sort.
I just always assumed that it's Rho's character from somewhere else done in Starbound's art style.
...But yeah I guess it could be in the game for real?

 

I can see how people would jump to the cyborg conclusion, but I'd agree that it looks like she could be wearing some goggles. And I've seen darker skin in real life.
Also, even if Rho's avatar is a new race, calling this a conspiracy is a little over-the-top. At least just call it a well-kept secret. You make it sound like they're committing treason by not telling us about a new race. It's not like they're obligated to tell us every little detail. It's not very fun to play a game for the first time when you know absolutely everything about a game (usually, although there are a few exceptions, notably Minecraft and Terraria).

Even so, to assume that, because the skin color darker than what you're used to, Rho's avatar is a new race is just a little too judgmental. If it were a completely weird color like lime green or pink, I could understand it, but it's just brown.

But it wasn't a joke thread though. I was pretty serious while bringing up the possibility of Rho being a different species.

It's not AT ALL a topic to discuss racial matters. What I wanted to pinpoint in my original post is that Rho's sprite, and only her sprite, doesn't look much human. And there's something else too. Humans, ALL HUMANS FROM EVERYWHERE ON THE PLANET, have a skin color that deviates from some beige color. It's true for "whites", Asians, "blacks", Amerindians, etc. Black people can have a really dark skin color, but in the end their skin color is, as for white people, a deviated product from beige (in the case of black people, often resulting in a kind of dark brown color). I mean, even your own image somehow shows what I tried to say. The athlete shown on your picture has a really dark skin color, but can you really say that color has anything to do with Rho's? Here:



Rho's skin color IS NOT brown black but rather cinder black, which makes her look somewhat metallic like some people mentionned earlier. It's not a typically human skin color. No black person can have a skin color that tends to grey. Also, I'm not even talking about genes and other stuff here that make it genetically impossible for black people to have blue eyes, let alone shining blue eyes like Rho has. I'd also like to point that my original post clearly states that I'm just throwing a possibility to the forums and that I'm well aware that Rho's unique sprite can have a lot of explanations. Maybe the sprite actuallly was supposed to represent a black woman, but the skin color was wrongly chose if that's the case. Cinder black is impossible for a human skin color.

Please forgive me if I somehow insulted anyone. That was not at all my intentions.

No, it's not that you offended anyone
It's just that I don't think you can say that Rho's skin looks "inhuman" when all you have to work with are about 20 pixels. I don't think that that color is at all "metallic" or anything, I personally find it to be skin color.

It is possible (and probably extremely likely) that Rho's sprite is not human at all, but I don't think that has anything to do with her face color.

EDIT: Regarding eyes; Ever thought those might be goggles? They look a lot like goggles to me.

DOUBLE EDIT COMBO: My friend Kurai also noted that you will most likely be able to choose WHATEVER skin color you want during character creation, meaning that the color does not necessarily need to be human ;p

Also, your "cinder black" is a real skin color. My friend is half Japanese and half black, and has that exact same skin color (it's quite pretty, by the way). The "gray" part that you're looking at is probably the sprite's lips, and you're completely missing the possibility of a color slider or something to customize skin color, hair color, clothing color, etc., a la Terraria and other games.

To all people who said she had a skin color that's perfectly normal for black people, you were much right it seems! The grey part of her character sprite is simply an armor, which put me wrong when I thought it was actually her skin and that her brownish face was a mask of sort. Still, black-skinned humans don't have blue eyes, let alone shining blue eyes. And the fact that we can't see her ears still lets the possibility that she doesn't have normal human ears either... Maybe this -possible- playable race represented by Rho's character is much alike normal humans, but with a few minor differences like shining eyes, weird natural hair colors and different ears? Tiy said he didn't want space elves...
