So yeah if you don't know, there was a monster contest few months ago Pretty simple , the winners were chosen because of there originality and the talent of their creator )

So it has been said that the Poptop ( this ) and the other winners*

Anyway the Poptop ( which is for me the mascot of the game ) and also the virorbs and the others are originla monster with unique design okay ? So there is my question :

When the ennemies are generated randomly in the game how do you think Poptop and co will be added ?

Do you think there are gonna be Rare random monsters ?
Maybe Boss ( Poptop army *___*) ?
Do you think they spawn in a very specified and very rare biome ?? ( Viborbs could be, that's the main part of the idea )


So... what do you think ?

While some monsters will indeed be randomly generated, others have an already preset appearance, which is the category the Poptop is very likely going to fall into.

In terms of rare creatures, that definitely sounds interesting and would be a nice aspect to have in Starbound. ^^

 

I think a boss/miniboss would be the best way to go about it.

Rare-random is also a good idea, but you don't want it showing up on all different types of planets.

On the subject of mascots I say, don't force it. Just let it happen when it happens.

As for monster generation, I would assume it will just be seeded into worlds randomly.

 

The poptop was definitely not forced. It just won a contest and everyone knew about it. Plus... it's be really hard to have a mascot that comes from a random generator.

 

He was saying no to the OP's ideas and instead was saying use them as Mascots.

 

What I'm more interested in is that I've seen some concept art with small poptops, and then fully grown (and much scarier-looking) poptops... will poptops -actually- go through this transformation? Will other monsters? That's what I want to know.

 

But by now, it's already clear that the penguins are sort of mascots in general.

Though a certain monster may end up popular.

 

Mascots are basically taken as stereotypes when people are new to something. Minecraft, for example. Whenever i talk to somebody that doesnt really know minecraft, they say, "Oh, that creeper block game?"
I don't want starbound to be referred to a penguin space game just because we chose a penguin or whatever else as a mascot

 

I have never heard anyone say this in my entire life.

No one is ever going to say "that penguin space game"
