An old mention that requires attention pending 1.0

Been out for a while, but I'm back. Butted out of Starbound on the removal of hunger, and the forums with it. Hungers coming back and with it as is the old plague of me.

That said, Hunger is not what I came back to talk about.

Today I am going to bring up some rather very old mentions about planets. Quite some time ago on the "About" page of the official website Terraforming and Weather Control Stations were talked about. Now I have made a good number of suggestions on how to apply these before in the past, but really seen nothing come out of it. Now more than ever I would like to see these items come into implementation.

You have a colony system in place now- which could play VERY favorably into a terraforming system. Put the colonists to work. Or have certain requirements to draw a terraforming specialist into the colony. Or as I have suggested before- have a buildable terraformer which harvests/replaces materials up to the level of the primary metal used in construction of the placeable item. (have a from dropdown and a to dropdown containing desired biomes based on construction material, these would also be endgame content which could be used to strip planets of ore given sufficient time). I have not played with the vehicle system much yet- but it could also hold a good opportunity- a mobile terraformer isn't a horrible idea either. Or a module that can be built into the maxed out ship to modify the planet from orbit.

For a weather control station, again within the framework of colonies you have a golden opportunity. Build the right space and you will see an aerographer appear whom specializes in the manipulation of not just the weather for the local area, but also seasons, day length and ect. In the end game, I fully believe you should have 100% control over your chosen colony planet. Additionally you could use a placeable item instead, or just control such things from the ship in orbit- assuming it is at its maximum potential (personally preferred idea).

Other forumgoers: please add your input- what are good ideas for implementation? (Please no "no u dumb terraforming dumb git gud scrub" comments- keep it constructive. IE: I dont like this idea, but if you change point a-z it could be decent.)
(If you feel that terraforming/weather control is unneeded feel free to POLITELY say so. Bear in mind the point of this thread is not to debate if it is or is not needed, but rather to talk about the best way to put it in game. That said not everyone may want it, which I get- just respectfully asking people to NOT pick fights.)

I think it would be great! I think with the new crew system you could Get some scientists and you would have to construct the machine (Very Expensive Of Course) and then bring them down to the planet to work the machine, You would have to protect them from monsters, bandits, etc. But that would give more incentive to build a big base on a planet and fortify it. Same For the weather control system.

Thank you for your input, and I fully agree. I would love to build a monster base on a planet- done it before where I converted a large asteroid over the planet into a base. A team of scientists, or just one, with some sort of very expensive single use place-able would work perfectly. I feel like this should be end game content to begin with so something line 500 copper bars for the lowest level "Geomanipulation Unit" would be reasonable, especially if over time it would pull all copper and below ores out of the planet. Then again, maybe that's too much, who knows how many ores a single planet yields- with the addition of the fact that you would then be able to change soil and grass and such and major bioms. I know I've always found planets which I initially really take to... only to find later that they are half "tentacle". Bleck.

I think it would also be cool if you had to care for your staff by building things like quarters and cafeterias, it would make your game feel really "Alive" .

Another good idea, though almost moving into another topic- kinda getting more into how colonies in general should work. I agree that it still applies though- you could set it up so that the rate of extraction is affected by a sort of moral system within the colony.
