I have to second this one. Compared to minecraftforums.....this community is one of the most friendly and polite gaming communities ever. Maybe that is because it draws less pre-teens and teenagers? Not sure what the reason is. But at least generally when someone is upset about something on these forums it isn't without some warrant. There have been some times where I faceapalmed and smh. But those have been far less than MCforums which I literally quit participating in almost 2years ago because of how negative people are and how pointlessly punitive mods can be. So, I am greatful that people here generally understand coding/game development even just a little and rarely just bash each other because "OMG CHUCKLEFISH NEVAR DUZ WUT I WARNT!"

I also don't understand why people think this community is so negative. Compare it to MMO-champs ...or 4chan where derogatory and xenophobic insults are tossed around every 10th word. I see people upset that the game hasn't made one step forward publicly in a really long time but I hardly ever see actual vitriol here. Comparing this place to your typical internet userbase's general sweeping attitude and you can see how tame this forum actually is. I never see a forum topic on MMO-champ where the replies aren't ones made by people talking down to the person they're replying to or insinuating that they can't read or are less intelligent than they are.

My main disappointment is the usual, development speed. Ya ya I've heard it all, games take long to make, they are adding more stuff etc etc blabla, and truth be told looking at the current stable version you can sort of understand that they do have a long way to go to take it from bad to good. That being said we are now headed towards what, 4 years of development? I don't care what standard you go by, what type of game, what staffing, what goal/ambition etc, no matter what standard you go by this game is going slowwwww. Even if the game was being developed by a 1 armed blind man programming on a mechanical typewriter it would still be considered slow.

This game isnt being made by a single one armed man on a typewrite though, its being made by an actual company that has dozens of paid staff, tons of volunteers, a fairly active community to tap into for ideas and feedback and a decent modding scene that they can also rip ideas and content from. Not to mention no less (probably much more) than 15 million dollars of funding that was paid to them upfront with no strings attached.

That aside there is also attitude. There was the goonbound fiasco, prominent devs having meltdowns on the steam forums, that period of time where the forums entered the 3rd Reich and every thread had multiple red raccoon's shaking their heads on every page (not as bad now but some of that 3rd reich still remains) and other devs just disappearing with both parties keeping their mouths completely shut as to why. Even Tiy himself has made several remarks that express a fair amount of salty attitude towards the community (at least the community members who have dissented from the ranks). Many of the staff that used to be quite involved on the forums have been notalbly silent for a looong time.

"Oh you guys don't like that there hasn't been a good stable update in the better part of a year? Well just remember you DID say you wanted less frequent updates with more substance" ~evil grin -your friendly starbound dev

Its the "players" folder. Near the "universe" folder for planets.

I do believe the mod Starcheat is able to change characters names and genders, maybe you would like to try it out?

I don't need a mod, I need to find out how to save my characters in my computers files library.

My disappointment in Starbound has come from many areas of the game, some of them being, development, forum goers, forum moderators, PR, newsletters, etc. Most of these come from me creeping the forums, checking in on the posts on the frontpage and occasionally checking twitter feeds. I do think this thread is a step in the right direction for criticism (All other's I've seen get locked for multiple reasons). My views of the developers however has yet to improve, in my opinion a lot of what I see on the front page are very minuscule or pointless progressions (bioluminescence to name an example). I think forum goers have sort of improved but I'll still see the occasional snarky comment gets away for free.

    I
didn't say the entire Community is a negative one I merely called it a "crazy a$$ forum" for the record (Horse AI anyone?) - that one that is overly negative is the Steam whinefest...er, community.

Maybe i just set my expectations particularly low, or more realistic, but i cant say ive been disapointed in general with Starbound. Finding out the Hunger system is apparently getting the boot, and food is going to essentially be just another consumable buff isnt something i'd particularly like.
But i cannot possible agree with all the design choices a dev makes, its just so unlikely. I hope other survival mechanics make up for it, and otherwise mods might.

I've really only played (a lot!) the month after the beta started. And now, after patiently waiting, i am looking at what 10+ months of development have done to Starbound. And i am excited.
Not entirely sure what most complaints and disapointments originate from at this point, still based on the mistakes made in the past?

Been a looooooong time since I last posted on here. Since I even visited here. My usual interest in Starbound now amounts to an occasional check of the download bar, or a quick click on the name in my Steam list. I am disappointed because I absolutely loved what I had played almost a year ago and sincerely hoped that it wouldn't be too long until it was finished. I wasn't one of those who asked for less updates and think nightlys were a bad move.

In the end, all I can say is that, if No Man's Sky is out before Starbound 1.0, then something somewhere is seriously wrong.

I know, we should be PC....everyone wins, everybody is great and everyone gets an A. Great Job!! Or we could talk reality, and call a spade a spade. Not taking a side, merely comparing "Crazy" (Here) with "Nagative" (Steam) to demonstrate my point. You seem overly concerned about Steam. It is what it is....a legendary toxic community - http://i.imgur.com/BPtOKVZ.jpg
