Its almost as if he's a mirror image of every major media outlet available. Just look at the fecal matter that was tossed all over Pewdiepie this week by Wall Street Journal.

The sad truth is, there are so many people that wear jerseys for people that don't give a shit about them. So, you can choose to believe that Trump is the devil and you'll have tons of people that agree with you. You can also believe that he's the greatest president to ever great the office, and "oh joy!" people will love you on that team.

You can sit and fret over his tweets. You can avoid the dumpster fire of twitter all together. Trump is the president that was built by a dishonest people for a dishonest people.

The problem with John Oliver is that he plainly wears a jersey for one team, that's why he has less credibility to me. Fox media is obviously on another team. Find me some people with some intellectual honesty and we'll have great discussions and slog forward through all the hate and shit on both sides.

I cited Dave Rubin because he's worked on both sides and generally tends to analyze both sides evenly. I enjoy people like this. I like to diversify the opinions that I listen to.

Its fun to watch people on your team throw shit at the other side, but it isn't very productive. Find opinions that make you uncomfortable, listen to everyone. Challenge your team, don't just follow blindly and demonize the opposition. The left and right need to work on themselves and stop trying to treat the other side.

Yeah, and I often do (since it's a requirement for capston) and while JO is one sided, he does have a pretty damn good team for fact checking and credibility last I checked. However, I will remain adamant that this kind of person who just takes whatever he wants to hear and spouts it as truth to others who believe every word he says...
    I miss Bernie...
And as for FOX, even they're now taking a stab at trump and it's showing he doesn't like that...
At this point, it's Breitbart or nothing for "Honest News"...

All I can say to this matter right now is that whatever happens, you're all invited to my party in the burning ruins if the worst should happen. I'll loot, errr, bring booze.

  5. Roskii Heiral

    Roskii Heiral Heliosphere

But that's the point, isn't it? Whoever is saying things we want to hear is "honest news."

You like JO, so you don't worry that he only reports one side of things and his "fact checkers" only fact check one side. Confirmation bias is at an all time high. The troubling thing is that both sides do this, so many people are being played and they aren't even aware until the gun is pointed at them (ask pewpew).

If you had asked me last week if the Wall Street Journal was a credible source that checked its facts, I would have said yes.

Seeing Trump is like holding up a collective mirror to the population

And that's the underlying problem I guess. Deep down we're all assholes. It's in our genes. We're all the descendants of warmongers, and we can't let that go. Left wing, right wing, whatever the hell else there is - we all have our convictions and too many of us are ready to defend them to the point of war. And I'm scared of that.

i never said that he's my only source, I just said he's a credible one (and the most entertaining onw). He's incredibly left winged, and he only says things from the liberal democrat perspective, and I recognize that. However, even the conservative right leaning FOX news is now attacking trump and is in turn being attacked for being a "fake news" source... And most of the time, it's common sense and easy enough to find many examples in which trump falls into exactly what these networks all call him out on... All the networks do is call him out on it. And while there are some examples of him attempting to do things, it's horribly undermined by his utter inability to see reality.
Just for perspective, I am very much a leftist libertard and my bias shows... I typically get my news from Washington Post, BBC, and Al jazeera.

Not a 100% sure if anyone corrected you, but most of that is pretty inaccurate.
The U.S Government runs on a Checks and Balances System that has 3 heads; Judicial / Executive ( President ) / Legislative ( Congress )

The President is not all powerful and what he says is not absolute.
The President has the power to Veto Laws made by Congress and create executive orders, but has no ability to make laws.
Executive Orders are essentially orders from the President to Employees of the Government. Or to put it plainly it cannot go beyond the governance of government duty, nor can it supersede any law by the constitution. All executive orders are privy to judicial review.

The Judicial Branch - deals with enforcing laws set by congress and the constitution. Its job is essentially enforcing laws and deeming if a law, order or verdict is unconstitutional. It also has the job of setting precedent in cases.

The Legislative Branch - is the one which writes laws, in which the Judicial Branch will follow.

So gist of it is Judicial > Executive > Congress, and Congress > Judicial,> Executive.

Now as for the U.S Attorney General - is not the private lawyer of the President, but in fact the Lawyer for the U.S Government. In other words it is the legal council of the U.S government and will advise if something can be taken to court. So it is president's prerogative to listen to their council not order them to defend something. The fact he fired her for not defending it shows he thinks he knows the law better than her. In the end though she was proven right when the Judicial Branch halted the order multiple times.

Which only comes to show - he hates people more educated than him. He wants people to be below him so they always ask him what to do. It doesn't matter if it is wrong, if enough people believe in it, it turns the perception of it right. For example if I pointed at the color blue and said it was red, then got a room of a 100 people and convinced 98 people that blue was red. It doesn't matter if those 2 remaining people know it to be blue. The Majority opinion is it is red and hence changes a false perception into reality.

Or as the new administrations moniker - #alternate facts, it is a common method used by Dictators such as Kim Jong Il used on his people. He used to tell his citizens that everyone outside of N. Korea is living in poverty and N. Korea is one of the wealthiest nations in the world. He also made a few other crazy claims and gave him self numerous awards in creative arts. Long story short - psychological warfare works wonders on simple minded people.

Or anyone who didn't like what the news had to say about them at any time in history ever. But sure, dictators have also felt this way. The main difference is that instead of taking to twitter and attacking back, the traditional dictator will use the military to enforce his point of view.

The default "Trump is just like ________ (dictator)" has been used so many times that it almost makes people forget your first point, which is that Trump only represents part of one branch of government. He's not a dictator (yet).

That actually isn't true - it is far more dangerous than people realize.
Since the new Republicans are behind Trump - they refuse to investigate him or his cabinet for any crimes.
The person in charge of the House oversight committee - who is actually suppose to investigate criminal matters in the executive branch - says he will not investigate Trump.

Trump even told him directly - not to do any oversight on him.
In fact he plans on investigating the people reporting the crimes. Silencing people who report any sort of criminal activities of the ruling party - is in fact what dictators do. If the government was functioning properly - investigations will be done on the allegations.

Rand Paul even said, "It makes no sense to investigate your own party" - which is saying, "If my party commits a crime we should just ignore it."
Republicans also tried last month to kill Office of Congressional Ethics - which investigates senators of crimes, and tried to make it so only the House Oversight Committee had all the power.

Again the House Oversight Committee currently run by Republicans refuses to investigate Republicans.
So essentially would have no oversight at all at that point. The only purpose of the House Oversight Committee would be to investigate anyone who opposes them.

All these small moves are in the alignment into a dictatorship role.
The only way to correct this is to make Conflict of Interest laws - preventing members of the same party to oversee them selves. So they have no say at all in dealing with criminal matters of their own party.

And thus, partisan politics in action. You'd expect some of these committees to be 'third party' or at least non-partisan at some level.

Yeah, you may want to check on those "alternative facts".... The problem with the attorney general is she had no grounds to refuse the order. It had been cleared by HER legal department, and the congress legal departments. She was literally an obstructionist. That's it.

And if Trump only wants dumb people around him, and is such a dumb person himself... how did he make Billions? And why would he hire some of the brightest minds in the country? The facts do not line up with yalls assumptions. #altfacts?

You may also want to research where the term "fake news or alternate news came from"....

Actually she didn't defend it because she said before hand it was unconstitutional, it would have been a waste of time and tax payers money.
If an Engineer tells you the Bridge will not support 100 ton truck and the boss says, "No I am the boss Drive over it anyway - I know it will hold" The Bridge Collapses the only fool is the Boss who has to pay for the truck, medical injuries and bridge, instead of listening to the brilliant engineer whose job is well, to know these things. You don't instead try and find an engineer who will agree with you - because the one who does has literally no idea what they are doing, or to scared to correct the mistake.

If you did not happen to follow up - The Judicial Branch and multiple federal judges and appellate court found it to no ones surprise - unconstitutional or as what the original lawyer said.
Or simply put - he wasted tax payers money and lawyers time, instead of listening to some one smarter than him. If some one tells you it is not going to work - you listen to them.

Trump claimed to be the #1 in his class. He did not rank even Top 50.
Trump's Business was not originally Real estate - it was his fathers business.

His first Business was Casino's - Went Bankrupt pretty fast - had to ask his father for a loan.
He tried multiple other companies - Airlines - Bankrupt, Magazines - Bankrupt, Food Industry - Bankrupt.
Board Games - Bankrupt. Essentially he failed a lot.

As for "How he made Billions" - There is a big difference between Bill Gates who was poor person making Billions. Compared to Trump who was a Millionaire making money.
You gain money exponentially based on the amount spent. Bill Gates without a shred of doubt has more intelligence in his pinky nail - then the entire Drumpf family for past 100 generations.

"Hired some of the brightest minds in the country?"
Oh god, where to start with this. If I ask Chef Gordon Ramsey - who is a brilliant chief - I tried his restaurant in Las Vegas and I ask him to run NASA. He is going to be out of his element.
He may know what he is doing as a Chef but he is no scientist capable of being Chief of NASA - even if there is only 1 letter difference.

Almost Every person he has picked had no prior experience in their respective fields.
    Lets take DeVos,
    • Never Went to Public School
    • Kids Never Went to Public School
    • Has no Degree in Education
Is in charge of Public Education - which means she couldn't be anymore disconnected from the field she is in charge of.

    Then you have Scott Pruit
A person ho hates the EPA - whose job is supposed to be to Protect the Environment.
That is like hiring a Hungry Wolf to Guard Sheep. After all nothing smarter then hiring a predator to take charge of its prey.

Though let us not forget the Neurosurgeon who is in charge of Housing.
Yup everyone he picked are experts in their respective fields, best and brightest - no that wouldn't do them justice. They are unarguably the paragons of their departments.
Absolutely no basis in that he choose them because they were his supporters and needed to give them roles in any random spot. ( This was Sarcasm by the way. )

But let us not just dwell on that.
Trump made a few statements that Airforce One is a waste of money, the new JSF is a waste of money. So many things are a waste of money.
Trump spent $10 million in travel costs in the span of 2 months, compared to the $97 million Obama spent in 8 years.
That though isn't the best part - He pays his company $1.5 million a year of Tax Payers money in order to rent rooms in Trump Tower for presidential staff and security detail.
If he was a actually trying to save "Tax Payers Money" He would not be wasting it on travel or paying his own company.

I am sorry dude - but you are arguing with a person who is aware of all the facts. You on the other hand try to make statements on lack of fundamental understanding of even the basics.
There really is no point in me continuing ( nor will I bother to )- it is like debating with a person who is completely unprepared and basis their understanding on random buzz words and hopeless conjecture.

The sad part is, no one wants to. If you sift through the comments from today, its would seem like everyone is talking about different countries. They are quoting the talking points from their favorite information dump (for better or worse).

The beauty of our current system is that the people decide what parties occupy the executive and legislative (and other to an extent). 8 years ago, there was a full government run by the democrat party. Ironically, very little got done. On the next election, the House was given to the Republican party. Still very little got done, usually the House was blamed for this. The next cycle, the senate was given to the Republicans. The gridlock continued. Now the senate/house/ and presidency belong to technically the same party. The interesting thing about the Republican party is that it houses many factions. You have the Tea Party, the Establishment, etc, etc. Then you have Trump.

Some interesting side notes about Trump:
-He's the only president going into office being Pro Gay marriage. (before you say it, Obama was not. Clinton also wasn't until 2013)

-He's the most socially liberal republican president to take office.

-He's had to fight against both the republican and democrat establishment to take office and won. He was outspent by a wide margin, and still took the presidency

I honestly had very little care for who became president this year (le gasp). It has been interesting to see people lose their mind about the results though.

I don't believe Trump is a dictator. I don't believe that he wants to nuke the planet. I don't care about his personal life. I don't think that he was the best choice available to be president (but I don't really care since we were given the worst selection of candidates possible last year to choose from.

So much credibility is being wasted on what Trump may or may not do

You understand that a lot of your argument is also conjecture? I hope that irony isn't lost on you. You assign motives and beliefs to people based on 2nd and 3rd hand information. Its very obvious that you want to believe a lot of things about Donald Trump, but I'm curious. Did you care about any of this before he ran for president? I honestly don't know and am curious.

How much money was spent to demonize Trump?

Again, I really don't have a dog in this fight, I just find it funny how many people huddle in their corner, find the info they need to confirm how they already feel, and come out swinging.

    Exactly.

    And to your question...

FEC reports that by the end of May, 50.7 million was spent against trump. The closest second was Kasich at 8 million.
And don't forget the Kantar Media report indicating over 75.5 million spent running anti-Trump ads on network TV.

Over 125 million was spent against him. And he spent 38 Million. Staggering.

Additionally, the whole court thing is hogwash. The 9th circuit gets 80% of their rulings overturned by the Supreme Court. One year it was as high as 90%!
To claim that as solid evidence is not accurate at all. Get all the facts, my friends.

Nothing I said was conjecture - except the Part about Bill Gates Intelligence - though it will be hard to disprove it.
After all to Say Trump is Smarter then Bill Gates - would be something only stand up comedian can say.
Everything else is actually quite verifiable and well documented. .

I know its hard to see actual facts when exposed to so much misinformation by the administration it is as if living in an alternate reality.

Facts are those things which are documented, like School Grades.
    Or School Attendance.
    Or Profits of Business.

    Nothing conjecture about it.
So no, no irony in it all.

As I said earlier to the other individual - don't bother trying with mindless statements - unless you have hard facts to back it up.
