no, i will not be datamined by a third party to gain starbound news. they have their own website. it is the first result in a search engine when you search "starbound". all important news should come here first. not by feed, not on the condition of allowing someone to spy on me.

 

What can the spys do to me with their datamines anyways?

 

Honestly, your paranoia should not mean that valid and potentially more efficient means of communication should be ignored, where a simple tweet can be made to express a status or a minor event. Nor should it dictate how Chucklefish chooses to spend its resources. The majority of people are comfortable using social media. It's here to stay. Nor are the forums the front page of the site. You have to click forums, accept a terms of agreement, and go into a specific subforum to view news. That's not what most people see when they google search it. They see the front page, which has the most important news listed on it.

And I will admit that it should have been posted to the forums. That does NOT mean that the CM should be fired, nor that all news on the twitter should be posted on the forums, nor all news on reddit should be moved to the forums. Each site has its own advantages and disadvantages.

 

I'm not exactly sure but it was fan made server admin tools so you could manage the server and enter commands. A big fiasco happened but I have no idea what it was.

you are right about the frontpage... this is why it should have the things that they tweet and reddit FIRST. if someone wats to know about the latest news, odds are they are going to look at the front page.

you cannot possibly say "the majority of people". for example, during the AMA, there were 700 users on the starbound reddit thing. at the same time, there were over a thousand here. and that was just the logged in users. i think it was like 3k unlogged in guests.

i have not claimed the CRM should be fired. i have said that she isnt doing a good job. im going to have to ask you to please quit putting words into my mouth. several times now you have accused me of things i have not done.

and no one said all the news needs to be on the forums. it needs to be on the front page. yes. all of it. it is stupid as hell to send visitors away from your own site (where you can make ad revenue) in favor of a place that is making money from you and your userbase that you see no part of.

 

And if you don't want to see the news, when it is in fact already directly linked on the web page, that is your prerogative. The information is already there. You simply refuse to view it due to data mines.

Really? They have ad revenue from their front page here at Chucklefish? I didn't notice any banners there, just the promotion of games that they are publishing.

I think D-16 worries too much about money, as far as who has more of it than he does and how they got it.
I try not to worry too much about how much money google is making off my blogspot blog; i have not monetized any of my internet content thus far, it's as ad-free as I can make it.
If those people have done anything underhanded to get those profits; well as I said in the other thread, Justice is built into the Universe.

Posting information to un-official sites is bogus IF that information does not hit the OFFICIAL SITES. How hard is that to understand? Hey I am a data miner, I dig into your browsing info to gather all your datas. Because all your datas are belong to me, cause, imma sell that shit. NO. I are chucklie fish and I are not care about OFFICIAL FORUMS... figure it out.

 

that is their mistake then. there is little cause to complain in a single banner, and it provides extra money, which is good.

if you dont like what i take issue with, dont read it. or use the forum's handy ignore feature. perhaps when you've seen a few dozen more really good dev studios go under, you'll worry more about money, too.

Depends upon what our standards for success happen to be, 1 million copies sold is a pretty good success I would think.

I've never really felt the need to use an ignore feature.

 

It seems like posting an AMA on reddit is little cause for complaint as well. Relatively few people on these forums complain about having to read Tiy's tweets or visit any other social media outlets to get the news they're looking for. The forums make a great platform to discuss the game, but unfortunately also harbor discussion about how CF ought to operate their business. I don't personally think the latter discussion belongs in this thread.

 

You are so right, because nothing about the official forums really portray anything official, and of course that's because of the unofficial people partaking in said threads nothing official is discussed.
