What else is new... Chucklefish being lazy and not communicating effectively.

    - All the work done on the 'suggestions' section where you could up/down vote suggestions went to waste because the devs switched it off shorly after beta.
    - All the work on the Roadmap was a waste because it continues to be neglected as a venue of providing progress.
    - The community newspaper that is consistently late and now mostly consists of community mod info that you can obtain on your own browsing the forum.
    - Having an "Ask anything thread" that is hardly ever opened / updated.
    - The front page website Twitter feed only shows Tiy's twitter, when it should show Starbound's feed at a minimum and the devs (Starbounder.org's twitter feed has it right thankfully).
    - The front page news not being updated until a full hour after Tiy's twitter post letting us know aboutt he big changes and AMA reddit.
    - Important details being left out, like AMA start times, etc on twitter feeds and front page
    - Having a Community Manager on the payroll and still failing to fix the above.

Info about it was posted on two different twitters, which are the primary source of information that isn't front page worthy? I don't see how that was a failure to give notice. If you're gonna confine yourself to the official forums, great, but you're gonna miss out that way. It's the goal of a CM to engage the ENTIRE community, not just a toxic overly-entitled forum. That includes the Reddit community, the SA community, the Twitter community. It's only one person. She does a pretty amazing job considering everything that's going on. And it's not really our place to decide whether or not somebody deserves to be paid. We bought a product. That's it. We're not entitled to anything beyond eventually receiving a finished product.

you say the forums are toxic and overly entitled.... but at least here you will not be downvoted to invisibility, even if you make very valid points, for the sole reason of your unpopularity. the developers should not be posting links here to discussion there, it needs to be the other way around.

if i want info on starbound, i'm going to go to the official starbound website, not to some social media sinkhole.

    To add to this.

In reddit if you get a downvote in the first few seconds/minutes of life you can kiss having your post seen goodbye.

I don't see anything wrong with this? I dislike the reddit format, but it helps keep tiy from being overwhelmed, and allows him to answer more questions in the time allotted. If people are interested in a question, it'll get upvoted. If people aren't, it'll get down-voted. As opposed to the forums, where he'd have to wade through hundreds of posts, and where people will start complaining because he didn't choose there, and start requoting their posts hoping that he'll then answer it, only creating more posts to wade through? The developers answer questions on the forums, on twitter, on reddit, on IRC, on gaming forums. Missing an AMA is not a big deal, and certainly isn't worth getting up in arms about.

And you are being overly entitled. You guys are complaining about not being told about an AMA in your medium of choice, and saying that the community manager should be replaced because of this and other honestly very minor grievances. You guys bought a product. A product with no promised support, nothing attached, besides receiving a product. That isn't even out yet.

    No offence but.

Do you not realize that this is the OFFICIAL FORUMS? They also have a OFFICIAL BLOG?

Do you not realize that they interact with the official forums on a daily basis? That they posted the stuff about the AMA on the OFFICIAL TWITTER, that is linked to on the OFFICIAL SITE?

Like, if you want everything posted on every medium because you can't be arsed to check their twitter on a semi-daily basis, well, tough. If it bothers you so much, you could maybe take it upon yourself to help spread the news? Maybe repost information from the twitter so that people here can read it?

i am upset that official news was not posted to the official site.

it may come as a surprise to you, but not everyone likes to be datamined by "social media services".

as you said, the CRM must manage the community not only at the social media outlets, but also here, the official site.

when the official site is snubbed in favor of social media, people like me wonder what the point of the official site is in the first place. do you know how much it costs to host a site with as much traffic as this one gets? why waste that money when it can go to paying developer salary, or rent for that superfluous office?

    Woah man your right.

I do stare at twitter or the main forum page looking at the current tweets!

I do know TvK linked the AMA. Because the devs themselves did not. This was at the end of the AMA anyway.

And its sad when forum members have to repost news instead of the devs posting it themselves.

These are forums attached to the official site, not the official site itself. Large updates have always been on the front page, and small news has always been on the twitter. The forums are a place for discussion. The AMA was a minor piece of news, and not something worthy of a announcement thread or a front page post. In addition, the CM has been traveling, and the AMA seems to be something that Tiy did independently.
The forums themselves are social media, so I'm not really sure why they're innately superior to twitter.

And we don't really have the right to discuss where they use the money. If the game is being produced, and honestly, the game as it stands has more content than many finished games, but the developers are awesome people who are added many awesome features to an awesome game, and have promised future support. Which is really cool. That we have a community manager that's able to keep the lead developer from flipping out at a community that has given him nothing but grief about everything he does is pretty cool, and honestly, their interaction with the community is exceptional compared to other game developers, and indeed many indies. Look at Minecraft, look at Terraria. We have one of the best developer community interactions on the internet, so if this isn't what a CM should be payed for, I dunno what is.

But you check the forum often enough that a post here would be superior to the twitter? They announced it on an official channel, dude, that has a feed on the PRIMARY channel so that more people will see it. More people check their twitter on a daily basis then these forums. It's a great way to get information across, probably the best, quite honestly.

Can't say that I feel disappointed by the news, wherever it showed up, eventually it made it's way to me.
I don't really blame them for using other media sites to release up to date info as that is pretty typical.
The very best source of info for up to the minute game developer news is more often than not TWITTER, that's just the way it is guys.

Most of us don't live on the Chucklefish forums 24/7 so we'd likely miss news of current events that get posted here.

i dont see how i missed it, these arnt the official forums at all! how could i have been so stupid to mistake this as an external site just LINKED to the official starbound page! and to think that i thought i recognized this as merged content management software and forums!

the forums are innately superior because they do not mine and sell your data.

i make no bones about "large updates on mainpage, small on twitter" being amazingly stupid. ALL news worthy of the name MUST be posted to the mainpage. when people type "starbound" into a search engine..... well look for yourself.

what's the first result? where is twitter? how many results down is reddit, and does the search result look like an official news outlet?

if i see the devs spending money in a wasteful manner, yes im going to say something! that is money that could be directly spent on development, improving starbound, and making CF more successful. i REALLY dont want to see another john romero magnitude fiasco.

They are the official forums. they're just one part of the official site, though. The primary page is the front page. Which has a link to the twitter, as well as an automatic twitter feed. Which displayed the AMA info during the time of the AMA. So, yes? Yes it was on the mainpage? And the the forums aren't the main page? The forums are a place for discussion, not for news?
And the AMA wasn't worthy of the front page. They tend to summarize what was important from it in a later update anyway. So, yes, all news worthy of the name is posted to the front page. Livestreams and AMAs aren't worthy of the name.

And we're not shareholders, dude. This isn't a kickstarter. We have no right to complain about how they spend their money, beyond to demand a refund if they fail to deliver a product. I mean, that won't stop people from demanding to know how much the CM is paid, complaining about having a physical workspace, and sending complaints whenever a dev mentions that they're having fun playing a game, instead of working 24/7. But we shouldn't. Chucklefish neither wants, nor needs our advice on how to run their company.

I spend more time lurking on the STEAM forum for the game, and most posters there will tell you that its unread by the developers.
All STEAM news about the game comes from third-party review sites pretty much.
But someone will usually post something about relevant tweets or reddit content.
I do have a twitter account myself and I'm following the guys but I don't look at it all the time. I have them liked on Facebook as well.

i know the urge to whiteknight something you like is strong. please control yourself.

every member of CF is human, and humans make mistakes.if all they ever hear is praise, these mistakes will go uncorrected. uncorrected mistakes kill young companies.

mindless praise and "let's wait and see" do far more harm than you can imagine.

answer me this, what if i wanted to ask a question, and no one else asked the question i wanted? no, under no circumstances will i go to any "social media outlet". so basically, because i am unwilling to let a third party spy on me and sell my data, i am excluded from developer-user interaction. tell me again how it is a good idea to alienate any of your userbase this way?

the AMA may have not been frontpage news to you, but to me it sure was. if my question was answered, about a hundred posts of mine would not be in existence. so much argument would have never taken place. do you happen to enjoy arguing about vague wording? i sure dont, but i've been forced to defend my position because of whiteknights like you who do not understand the damage that comes from isolating yourself from negative criticism.

i never claimed we are shareholders. i said that if i saw them spending money stupidly, i would say something about it. that is very much my prerogative to do so, just as the fine folks at CF have just as much prerogative to ignore me. i'm still going to say something. perhaps it comes from previous complaints, but i have not seen one demand to know how much anyone is getting paid. i have seen people say that our current CRM is not doing a good job, and thus is not a good expenditure of resources.

furthermore, CF is playing in the Big Leagues now. social media outlets like twitter and reddit are fine for amateur projects with 0 funding. once you have your own official site, it's time to start drawing the social media crowd in from whatever service they came from, to here.

and for the record, complaining about complaining is worse than the complaining that is being complained about.
