Now in case we dont get armor costumes, we could use an Alloy Plating system. Basically, using an alloy dipper, you can submerge armor and (maybe) weapons in liquid, magnetized metal so that it creats a plate of the material around the item in question. Not to mention a really exotic armor plated with gold would look pretty nifty. I guess it's essentially an armor painting tool that would use metal to paint with; and MAGNETS!

    so...

actually this is a really interesting idea, it shouldn't provide any statistical changes but say, consuming a bar or 2 of metal to "fully repaint" an armor would be quite nice.

Maybe even optionally one bar to repaint part of the armor, and another bar to repaint, say, the trim.

I don't think many people would use it if it cost valuable resources without conferring any tangible benefits. Perhaps a painter NPC on the space station that would paint items in return for a small amount of pixels.

I dont know. If they really want to repaint armor and ores will be as common as Terraria, they'll have no problem at all.

I really like this idea, but yeah, maybe a painter NPC would be better. Or you could make dyes or paints from resources, and use those instead. But those aren't magnetic :(

They dont have to be if ur painting the armor.

Thing is, if we aim to be realistic and/or challenging, we'd have to magnetize liquid metal to make a coating. Have you ever tried painting metal with ordinary paint? You need some form of charge to have it "stick".

True, but that depends upon what color the ores are. What if I want to make my armor green, but I can only find copper? or if I want blue armor, but I only have a little blue metal, and I need it for something else? My point in this post, I suppose, is that I don't want certain colors to bee more valuable without any actual benefit.

    Ahhh, I get it now.
Maybe you could be able to imbue cheap metals with dye colors?

Oh, and Copper, when it rusts, it becomes green. Iron rusts red, and I think Tin rusts blue, so technically you could dye your armor green with copper.

Maybe you could have some kind of machine on the space station that accelerates the rusting process so you dont have to wait for ores to rust.

Sounds good to me. I think you could also just pulverize it to turn it into it's colored dust.

    Maybe a grinding machine?

i also think it would be cool if there were rare ores on some planets that are meant specifically for dying armor. These rare ores would give you armor a unique look or even perhaps give you a specific particle effect when applied to armor. For example, you could have some type of glowing ore that made the armor glow faintly, even in the dark.

I'm thinking that Crystal could be used for that purpose, dont you agree?

Yeah... It would be really cool to customize the particle affect on your gear. I remember in Terraria I was always wishing I could apply a different effect. I would finally get the good gear and discover that I liked the old effect better even though the gear itself was better.

That's why costume armor existed, and that is, in turn, why this thread exists.

    Expanding from your idea-

Armor trimming, after dipping the armor in some material, you could trim the edges of the Armour, around
the shoulder plates, breast plates etc.

    For example: (warning, large image)

I'm just going to set another example to make it clearer.

Starting with black armor, we can dip it in white material, giving it a white appearance (while also strengthening it, since it is, the combination of 2 or more metals).
And then we can tint it with yellow paint/alloy metal, giving it an even better look.

    Thanks for reading.
