All tiers in Beta?

The issue is more that they've demonstrated multiplayer in nearly every stream so far so it would feel a bit of a con to cut it from the beta. I doubt that would happen though as it seems quite clear they want to give us a fun filled package even for the beta release.

 

I'm paying for both actually, and i pre-ordered instead of waiting for release for beta access. I don't think that much is unreasonable. But before i take another step down this line i'd like to be clear i'm not anticipating that in any way. I'm not threatening, i'm not saying "i'm on the verge here". But i can surely say that if multiplayer is disabled in the beta, that will be such a poor decision and a slap in the face that i certainly would not want it.

I'd also like this to be perfectly clear. If this game did not have multiplayer, i would not buy it. This game solo would be so far from fun for me, that it certainly is the dealbreaker for me.

 

Well, there are some things that I havent seen yet.
Two of them are vehicles and fossils.
Maybe each one of them is from one tier. Like tier 7 for fossils (research) and then tier 8 for vehicles (and more advanced ones in higher tiers, like 8 for combat vehicles and 10 for flying vehicles).
For example, from tier 5 onward, you could improve your ship.

So, IMHO the tiers arent just new items and weapons (which seems to be finished already), but also the new habilities you get from certain craft items (like lets say a molecular printer or something, or a organic printer, which you can create after researching diferent fossils).

 

Please carefully read my last sentence. Beta is a test phase... It is more for the developers than the players.

 

We're paying for both, because the package we bought promised beta access.
If the store page listed the beta item in its tiers as "MAYBE Beta Access," and not "Beta Access," you wouldn't legally count as buying beta access.

Alpha is the time to test certain features. Beta is "Feature Complete," meaning you'd have access to all the features during testing. That's the definition they're going by, so they won't actually be allowed to limit your use of features if they want you to test a certain thing. The best they could do is ask politely.

Knowing this community, that's all they really have to do, too. You people are really helpful, at times.

 

This is exactly why the beta isn't out yet. People would whine and say "Why isn't feature X implemented?" or "Why can't I do this?" or "Why doesn't this work?"
I guess the definition of beta is changing from playtesting to early release demo.

 

I don't trust this forum with the concept of complaining about a lack of features. From what I can tell, you guys like the devs way too much for any real show of anger to count as valid among the threads here.

The amount of people happy with the fact that the beta is out at all will vastly outweigh and probably eclipse the amount of people who don't know why Tier 6 is here but 7-11 is a chain of convenience stores.

Just like patient people vs people who saw the Yogscast playing.

 

Go to the preorder page, take a gander at the packages.

Notice that beta access comes with the package we pay for?

That means we pay for both the beta and the full release. Beta access isn't free, you have to preorder to play the beta, therefore you are paying for the beta just as much as you are paying for the full game.

 

Just a couple clarifications of things I've seen in this thread:
A. You don't need to pre-order for beta, (unless you count buying during the beta is out as still pre-ordering because it's still paying before the game is acutally out), you can still buy the beta after it's released. (This is offered not in argument to Sousuke's point but for general knowledge of people who might misunderstand it.)

B. Yes, you paid for a beta, and will get a beta, and yes the devs have said they are going to try to make it complete, but that still means they may or may not choose to include certain things if they are too broken for one reason or another.

 

actually I remember reading that the preorder rewards were being released at beta like starter pets, flosses, and novakid.

 

No, Novakids aren't going to be ready for beta, I'm fairly sure during the reddit AMA, they said they would have them done by the full game, but not the beta.

 

Though, progress seems to be going a lot better with the new tiers now that the initial one is done. I'd guess that it will take them 4-6 weeks to implement them all.

 

None of that changes, however, that the beta is for the developers. Yes, access to it is a perk we are being offered, but ultimately it's a phase of testing - a chance for the devs to vastly expand their testing and become aware of any lurking problems that remain.

It's not a zero-sum bargain, but it is still a development phase, and as such the focus is still on the devs.

 

Flosses are already available at your local drug store.

 

I don't think you understand, it is by no means a "perk". We are paying for beta access, it is a service. People were offering the same argument against people complaining during the early access week of FF14 due to its buggy nature saying "Its a perk! Be grateful!" not realizing that to get Early Access you needed to pre-order, and hence you were PAYING for it. Just because they didn't have to offer beta access doesn't mean its a perk.

And I never said it wasn't a testing phase. But it most certainly isn't a perk, we are paying for the beta, it is a service, it is really that simple.

Going to clarify on this clarification. Its still a pre-order after beta release. So technically regardless of whether the beta is released or not, you do need to pre-order to access the beta.

 

Yes. I hate those packages that say 20% more free, or whatever. No, I'm still paying for that size, it's just that you made it a bigger size for that price. Semantics.

Beta will consist of the first three tiers. Also, they don't have an actual solid number of total tiers, but it sounded like it would likely be around 10 from his wording.

Omni has been kind enough to answer some of the questions that have been on peoples minds about the beta.

From what I see him saying, up to tier 3 is their focus before beta. That and adding proper GUI controls and Options such as key-bind controls as well as making sure procedural generation doesn't cause your game to crash and save to be lost.

 

I was thinking someone might argue that point, but I wasn't trying to argue, I was just trying to damage control incase someone came along and was like "WHAT!? I can't get beta if I don't pre-order now?"

 

Do you guys think they want the bosses to be in before releasing the first three tiers as well?
