All tiers in Beta?

For the beta I thought they would only have the first few tiers. But the way it seems they want to have the whole game finished for the beta. Does anyone know exactly?

I asked Tiy directly in one of the update threads a while back this very same question.

His answer: "Hopefully."

 

Something I forgot to mention, "feature complete" excludes the preorder stuff. They said those would be worked on after beta.

Eitherway, nothing is certain until it happens, but that was their plan a while back.

My gut is the beta will contain as much of the game as is possible to complete before the deadline. If they get all 10 tiers in by "X date that's well before end of December", then we'll get the beta earlier than the end of the year. If they don't, then they'll eventually reach a point where they'll say, "Okay, we're not gonna have everything in by the end of the year, but we have to release beta. So let's stop all development on things that are still missing, and polish up what we do have as much as possible before we release it."

Of course, this is all just my speculation.

I would think so otherwise it would still be alpha and not beta. I expect they should be able to knock out the remaining tiers fairly quickly. The core game mechanics were pretty well polished for the first tier now it is just a matter of adding the new content for each additional tier which I would expect to take a good deal less time than what it took to make tier one fully playable.

 

I was hoping they would release the game before most features were complete to allow the community more creative input on gameplay mechanics and features. Then we would be more involved in the creative process of the game (e.g. core changes to combat ect.) There is a ton of risk in doing that because selling an unfinished game will probably lower sales and the game could bomb before it has a chance to get going. Soooo... looks like they are trying to get the game as polished and finished as possible and release it with some bugs. Which seems pretty standard these days; there are so many games which come out incredibly buggy on release which is like basically releasing a "feature complete" beta.

I'm okay with tier's being missing, but I'm really hoping the beta has multiplayer. I heard a rumor that it might not...

 

The i49 demo had multiplayer. I bet the beta will have it as well.

 

I'm 98% the beta has been confirmed to have multiplayer. The alpha has multiplayer, the pre-alpha has multiplayer, multiplayer is like a big deal to starbound.

 

This. Also if the beta did not have multiplayer, i believe it would cause a shitstorm larger than the current wait is. I mean, if you've read any of my posts you know i'm impatient and want the game badly. If they locked multiplayer for the beta that would be the step that caused a refund. Not saying it would happen, or giving an "or else" but that would be the single worst decision since a company decided to publish Daikatana.

While I'm betting the beta will have multiplayer, I really don't think that is cause for a refund. You are paying for the finished game not the beta. The beta is a test phase, not an early release; and the developers are free to choose which elements of the game they want people to test.
