Any programmers who think they may know or hopefully devs (pretty please? :D) be able to weigh in on this??

They started working on their first boss on june 24th. There is 10 tiers and they still haven't mentioned being finished the first one.

If they want to implement a boss at the end of every tier (10 in all) before beta is released, and it takes this long to finish one boss, then the beta is still over 20 weeks away =(

Or would it maybe be that the first boss is the ground work, and the rest are just implementing a new graphic, changing some skills and behaviours, and voila, the rest will be completed faster. ???

Probably ground work once they get some sort of boss AI it will go faster. This would make the most sense.(Just guessing correct me if i'm wrong)

I doubt the beta will have all tiers of content or at least I hope not. So it's probably nothing to worry about.

It takes a lot of assumptions to reach this conclusion...I don't think you have to worry about them taking 4-5 months just to make bosses.

<SuperMandrew> omni, last question: are all bosses planned to be in the beta? if you'd rather not say, i understand
<+OmnipotentEntity> no, not all bosses will be in the beta I don't imagine
    <SuperMandrew> thanks! :)
<Krogglidor> Oh, I thought all would be

The first boss is likely the groundwork. I can't imagine that they would implement all ten of them for the beta, anyways. Heck, it might be that they won't implement all of them even in the release.

Once they get the core boss mechanic down things will go much faster. Thats not how the boss acts persay but the conditions that spring up to create a boss fight.. the things that'll be linked among each boss fight like health display bars and so on. They have already mention generated boss areas, and mini-boss spawning. Once they have a batch of behavior code and all the rest, I am -assuming- it will go much faster with the others since they wont have to make the underlying code and triggers/events every time. It'll be more artwork and behavior differences with less foundation laying.

"I don't imagine" doesn't mean they may in fact have all but the story bosses in. In fact if each tier of progression is checked by a boss and its not related to the main story, I think there is a good chance they may say they need them all in before a beta.

Don't lynch the messenger, I could be wrong about the last. I'd be glad to be, in fact. ;)

I believe you're mostly correct and realistic in those assumptions, but I'm willing to bet that each boss AI will have completely unique behaviors. Obviously another assumption because that's all we can work with, but I say that because of their initiative to make Starbound so in depth I wouldn't put it past them to make them all unique.

So, yeah I agree that the basal work for bosses will help to speed it up, but I still think that if they make the bosses unique or not unique will be the most important factor on the speed of the creation of all tiers of the bosses.

Even if they all have the same EXACT behavior I'm sure that they won't all be in during beta because they are involved in the main story and the team has already said that the main story won't be done by beta, so even if they were done you wouldn't see them anyways.

Let me clarify what I meant in response to that.
We all tend, and I'm guilty of it too, to take developer statements as word of god. When its more like a best guess at the moment asked. Also not all the bosses, could mean all the tier are planned to be in, but not story bosses. Until they say one way or the other (and even then they could change their mind).. might not be best to hope they will release beta before all the gear-checks are in place. They could have done that by now after all so I would assume they are going for a more complete but buggy experience.

I wasn't doing that... Key words were that omni said 'I don't imagine', so there's still doubt in the statement.

Yeah they could change their mind.

There's non-story bosses? I thought there would just be bigger harder mobs, but not necessarily 'bosses' per se. I thought the 10 tiers was in line with the main storyline.

Could you please elaborate on your distinctions between tier bosses, storyline bosses, and gear? I'm a little confused.

I think it would be safer to assume that the buggier kind of things will be left for beta patches or release until they are significantly less buggy.

The devs have displayed time and time again that it seems like they want the beta to be an extremely bug-less experience that is close to release quality. At least that's what I've gathered from many of their statements.
